mexico

We've decided to go to Mexico for spring break. I was going to go to Halifax to visit my sister but its been decided it would be better to wait until June when the weather is better.

So Mexico, unlike most people ive never been there. Ive been looking around on the net for where to go as I am the designated trip planner as usual. So far ive found that Cancun or anywhere on the east side of mexico is damaged from huricanes for the most part until at least april.
I don't want to go anywhere thats overly busy. I went to hawaii in the summer and i found some places were nothing like i expected, very busy and others like maui were just what i was looking for.

Has anyone been to Cabo San Lucas or Los Cabos? at this point those spots seem to be the nicest and least busy. But i havent looked everywhere yet.

Where have you been? would you go there again? tips?

thx

my aunt and uncle own a restaurant and a bar in San Jose Del Cabo, and both my cousins and grandma tlive their. I just got back from a 2week vacation..

Gorgeous scenery, very relaxing, not as hectic as the rest of mexico. Alot of 'snow birds' live down there.

Pretty nice place, I could tell you a couple spots to hit up if you decide to head down their.

if it was me, i would find the cheapest flight possible to a resort town, hop a bus 50 mile south to a neat spot, and siesta my time away in peace and quiet.

I've been to Mazatlan, Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. I had a great time at all these places. Don't really know where you want to stay, but i would recommend an all-inclusive if you can find somewhere reasonably priced. That would be my choice. :)

Cancun: http://www.allinclusiveresortscancun...ySpa/index.asp

Puerto Vallarta: http://www.cantodelsol.com/

My dad has gone to Cozumel, and it seems more laid back by the sounds of it.

But doesnt staying at a gated, all inclusive resort, devoid of any culture, even remotely significant of mexico, sound appealing to you!? Come on man, Senor Frogs has a booze waterslide!!!

I just got back from Mexico.

just South of Cancun (an hour or so) at a resort called Barcelo Maya. (4.5star all inclusive)

It wasnt hit bad by the hurricanes but you could see some damage to the foilage.

I had an awesome time! I would recommend it. Plus I got a really good discount on it because of the hurricanes. so, it worked out really good.

(It was a gorgeous resort)

Let me know if you want some pictures or more info on it. Have fun on vacation.

i've had a bunch of friends that have been all over mexico and they say the best party place is mazatlan! everywhere in mexico is a party place but apparently mazatlan just has club, after club, after club. did you notice the difference between places when you were down there?

i luuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrve mexico.
ixtapa when i went was the shit. there was nothing american there, and it tok my parents (thankfully) forever to find tours - they just didnt happen over there. plus theres some small islands you can take a short boat ride to to go snorkeling on, and the whole place had a very laid back vibe. waves were nice and and strong enough to destroy me (i was a water-polo player and a competitive swimmer, ask middle mike, i can handle my shit in the water) so that a plus for me - body surfing was most excellent.
however i think i heard that ixtapa has been more develpoed since we went. but its definately worth looking into. will probably still be one of the least americanized places to go.
went to puerto vallarta the second time, stayed in nuevo vallarta about a 10 mintues taxi ride away. was its own little cove so the water wasnt brown. i didnt much care for puerto vallarta and its mcdicks, burger king and hooters. felt super american. we ended up finding wicked local bars and pubs though, and definately had the times of our lives in there. i strictly remember a drunken rendition of some billy idol sang by the a mexican cover band that had everyone in the place goin crazy. it was rediculous. and there were sting rays in the sand in nuevo vallarta - a guy go hit pretty bad by one of them, made me turn around so always be carful of where you step.....if your looking for somewhere not busy, i'd definately scratch peurto vallarta off your list.
cancun can be good - im surprised about the hurricane shit to tell you the truth. jan through to july is usually when my parent travel there. they usually stay on the mayan riviera - pretty pricey, but gorgeous. plus theres tonnes to see in and near cancun so many beautiful ruins like tuluum, coba, chichenetza (sp).... plus the beachs are gorgeous. however, it will be very american and pretty busy. but, my dad lived in mexico for a bit when he was young man, traveled through. he doesnt really enjoy crowded places when he travels and prefers to explore, and he reccommends cancun. so much to do and see.
cabo is relitively new, so there will probably be a lot of american touches, and where theres american touches, be ready for tonnes of tourists.

either way, really mexico is a beautiful country. anywhere you go really wont be a disspaointment. if you want a quiet place, mayan riviera, nuevo vallarta, ixtapa. every where else is a party. actually no - everywhere in mexico is a party. fuck i wanna go.

I'm not all that into the culture. I'm sure i'll take the thailand tour through the jungle and that. learn all i can when im in the mindset.

but i mainly went to sit in a hotel in the heat. lounge on the beach. drink free booze. whatever.

it could have been anywhere..... just happened to be mexico.

yeah, i guess even i cant argue against the need to crash on the beach, and get shittered with other tourists, but there is in fact a number of ways to do this without having to jump on the bandwagon. But it does take hella more research, and sometimes when yeah gotta get the fuck outta dodge, before you kill someone, i guess its a no brainer with all-inclusives.
