Alternative to Coffee or tea?
I recently tried to give up my morning cups of coffee or tea when i get to the office, but found that im that addicted that i cant get going properly till i have one or two.
just wondering if there is any natural substances that have the same or similar effect to caffeine but are not as harmfull or addictive, as im begining to worry about how much i take in a day. Cheers for any suggestions :) |

Green Tea! It's great - and really good for cleansing out your system, especially after heavy coffee/tea drinking.
I especially like the Tazo Green tea from Starbucks - great taste and wakes you up nicely, without the buzz, come-down and gut rot from coffee or tea. Another alternative is to simply drink a few glasses of Orange Juice - I have a glass in the morning - and the natural sugars give me a really good boost to start my morning. Good luck!! |

green tea is good, but it also contains caffiene just like black teas and coffee do.
If you're not wanting to go the caffiene route, try ginseng, take it as a suppliment, or try it diluted (but it tastes like shit). It actually gives you energy without the burnout, when I am taking it regularly I still have enough energy to do stuff after work, and you don't get the sketchiness that caffiene gives you. |

Ephedrine's good, if you don't mind having the urge to jump out of your
cubicle and run a few laps around the building. Seriously though if you want to give up caffeine altogether I think you have to abstain for about 7-10 days. After which your system should be back to normal (ie not needing you java pick-me-up in the morning) |

Here is a list of things I think I know about various beverages. Feel free to disagree.
Green tea is still tea, but with added bonuses like antioxidents and stuff. The longer you steep it, you have more tannins and less caffine it has (good thing). Problem is it tastes like crap (and i think fish, personally), but Tetley and friends make some pretty yummy flavoured varieties (pear, blueberry, etc.) Mate is inconvenient (just let me grab my gutted gourd!) and also contains 144 of the elements found in tea, including caffine, but doesn't give the jitters, palpitations, etc. Also tastes like hay. Good buzz though. Hot chocolate has a nice "body" to it. No caffine of course (chocolate powder comes from the husks) but many calories. Rooibos (sometimes redbush) tea is a caffine-free herbal tea which, with a little milk and sugar, tastes a lot like Red Rose. Barley Cup or Bamba are natural, caffine-free drink powders. Good "body" Let's see, what else is there? Ovaltine? Lemonade? Diet Coke? In conclusion, I think Yerba Mate is your best bet, esp if you can find it in a convenient, good-quality tea-bag format. |
