!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SHABUSEN OWNS!!! Sushi, and korean bbq!?!?! How can you go wrong! (purists can rage on me all you want) I usaully hit up the one off burrard and Alberni, when i havent eaten for a week, head upstairs, to the boat like booths with crue, stay away from the bowls of rice they try to fake you out with, stay away from any liquids, and get ready to gorge! Followed by feeling like a greedy, selfish asshole for weeks. |

So what do all the sushi afficienados think of Tojos? Hes considered to be one of the best master sushi chefs around these parts by the foodie elite, and id be lying if i said ive never been amazed with the selection of amazingly, butter smooth, fresh seafood he gets his hands on, but at the same time, its upscale, and personally im partial to the backwoods, off the beaten path, ghetto joints myself when it comes to eating out. Although im not as versed in terms of sushi eateries as i perhaps am with other cuisine.
Also what do the heads think of the izakawa joints that seem to have popped up all over the place over the last five years? I love the fact that its in fact japanese pub food fare, in comparison to what would pass as "pub" food in western/european culture. Are places like goo, happa, and that place in yaletown with the amazingly long name anything like authentic izakawa houses? Nonetheless Im partial to the table side basting of fresh mackrel with sizzling sesame oil, terrines made from tuna belly meat (the best part in my humble opinion) and of course the pig in me, just cant enough of the HELLA Beautiful females that work their asses of in these joints, although im sure the bad ass kitchen staffs that tear some serious culinary ass would tempura my ass in no time flat if i attempted to floss up on any of them! heehee |

Tojos is expensive! but if you decide to go there i highly reccomend you do the "trust the chef" meals by paying however much (starts at $50 +). They serve some interesting things. Otherwise they've got hype because many celebrities have been there and their head chef was apparantly the creator of the california roll.
but anyways after you're done your meal, they'll give you a big book fulla photos of celebrities that have eaten there. hehe and theyre loud like other full out japanese restaurants. it was ok but for that money i'm sure you can pig out at Shiro sushi on 15th and Cambie. Really fresh sashimi and fully japanese owned and run. |

I'm a huge fan of Shabusen on granville and 14th. There's one on Burrard as well, but it's not as good I've found.
Kisha Poppo on Davie just a few doors down from Shoppers...They have all you can eat in the evening, and then cheap cheap all you can eat after 9:30. I've gone to TanPopo but I don't like the wild sockeye salmon sashimi so it's not my favorite. Richmond sushi is crap but it's cheap if you want to fill yourself up (and I'd much rather go to Kisha Poppo then for a dollar cheaper for late nite) And finally, Sui Sha Yah in Landsdowne mall, Richmond. It's pretty good, just terrible service. |

I suppose this would be the proper thread to ask.. are there any good (or any at all) all you can eat sushi restaurants in Surrey?
I know of a number of sushi restaurants, but as far as all you can eat sushi (in Surrey), im stumped. |

there are some all u can eat places in surrey but i would go outside of surrey because those places have more items to order and cheaper sometimes. my opinion of those robson places sux except when u get down towards denman like gyoza king (awesome place but freakin always packed) or hapa. tojo is nice but really expensive, yah its funny seeing all those photos of the chef and stars all over the wall. dont u hate people who bitch about how we dont know shiet about real sushi. i noticed theres always a sushi connoisseur on sushi threads.
