Flying Apostrophe's

yea. you idiots who cant figure out if there should be an apostophe before the "s"? you are dumb.

it is used when assigning ownership to a noun, and the ONLY exception is

"it's"

which means "it is" NOT "belonging to "it""

get it straight dumbasses.

The flying apostrophe's what?

You do totally realize you added an unnecessary apostrophe in the thread title, right?

You know, hate to be a picky patty and all, but seriously.

Harsh, most of the time it's not FOB'S getting it wrong, it's people who have english as their first language and are educated enough, but are just too fucking lazy to try...they also don't know the difference between your and you're (and don't get me started on that!)

...actually, there are a quite few exceptions: "what's" (what is), "who's" (who is), "that's" (that is), "where's" (where is), etc... and also when pluralizing lower case letters "mind your p's and q's".

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handou...r/g_apost.html

and a quick note.....

there is also an apostrophe after the y in the sentence "Jay's (Jay is) going to kick your skinny ass if you bug people about the proper use of the apostrophe one more time."

but all of those first ones are all essentially the same as "it is", just replacing the "it" with something else. but you got me on the p's and q's. good thing no one can see the shame on my face.

The way you said it, you made it sound like the only plausible use of an apostrophe in front of an "s" is when using the possessive. This is wrong.
