one of these things just isn't like the other....
talk about feeling like the black sheep in a crowd....or rather the white sheep in a crowd of coyotes.
walking down the roads of the backstretch here all you hear are the mexican men yelling at you and making lewd gestures. at first i just hid behind my hat and kept walking but now they're trying to bust into my room at night. one night i was going out the door at 9pm and as soon as i opened the door some small mexican guy bolted from outside my door and jumped the fence into the trailerpark next door. after that one tried to open my door while i was in bed. now i'm leaving for albequerque new mexico when i've now been told it's worse. at least this time i'll have my friend with me. anyone who's not a mexican male between the ages of 18 and 30 here is a drunk old cowboy who views on life fit through the narrow opening between his beer can and his cowboy hat. christmas eve this year was like none other. i was sitting in a tack room with 2 mexicans who spoke little english, and a scary looking drunk blonde girl. they were teaching me to play poker while we were drinking shots of tequila. in my attempts to be around people who speak english i've found myself spending an excessive amount of time drinking cheap wine in the backstretch bar listening to the old drunken cowpokes talk about the gay rodeo and their homophobic views on brokeback mountain. i think the best time i had in that bar was when i tuned the big screen to olympic figure skating and they watched it with me and we talked about the scoring system and such. one of these things just isn't like the other......life in this city...... |

sounds crappy indeed.... Maybe you should go stay in a part of Mexico that has a bit of a white populatin...I know there is a place called San Meguel In Central mexico that is more than half English speaking... People from all over the world go there to learn Spanish and to do Art...
My dad wants to send me their for school(and hopefully he does)... Even if you dont get a chance to relotcate I wish the best to you. And be very careful. A friend of mine went to school their for half a year and he said he felt so bad for the white girls there(especailly blondes) he said all the Mexicans view them as sluts and harrass them?.. Im sure you will learn alot tho... Sound like a really fucked up experience you will remeber forever.. Good luck. |

i'm not here for school though. i'm here with some pretty nice race horses from home, my boss brought me here for the winter to race. not a bad deal when you think i got all my expenses paid and make $1000 USD every two weeks. we stayed in phoenix from december until now, but my boss left on sunday.
the job in new mexico is with someone i met here. i was offered jobs in chicago, LA and new york but they were long term and i need to be back near van for my job in the racing office on april 14, this job in new mexico is short term, i'm just taking 5 racehorses and a pony horses to train for a week and run them, then i've got my ticket for seattle booked from there. i've met some great people, like the trainer from chicago, i did alot of freelance work here, it's a great way to network in this industry. i met alof of important people that will help me with future jobs. |
