Now why should i buy the macbook pro?

hrmm....so im finally in the laptop market.

im using this thing for intensive multimedia production use during my next backpacking tour.

for weeks i have been locked down on the new macbooks.

but just recently ive had a revelation that since im on the road i should purchase a cheap PC notebook in case it gets stolen or damaged during travel.a $3300 dollar squashed, lost or broken Macbook might deflate me abit too much out there.

theft IS after all, always on your mind when your on the road...

in wich case, what suggestions would you have for a decent PC make?

..or should i just snap out of my PC delusion and stick with the Macbook, wich will might conflict with alot of my pro aps that i run on my G4?

*sigh* it sounds odd but, i need some outside perspective on the matter.

The nice thing about the macbook is that it is dual bootable now, apparently they run XP really fast too. The thing that would make me hold off on the macbook is the availability of the pro apps as you mentioned. I'd expect final cut pro to have a universal binary pretty quickly but I'm not sure about the non apple software like photoshop and such.
