only one i ever read is metro, just to get the ap/reuters feeds, but really i can get those off google news if i really wanted to. i never pick up new ones, just read one that happens to be sitting around on the bus or skytrain and make sure it eventually ends up in the recycling.

the only one i actually remove from the bins is georgia straight, and even that usually just to read savage love. otherwise i have books i can read.
funny you say that, i never take one from the pushers or the bins either, only the strait and only savage love.

Holla!

I gotta give some credit to Vancouver Sun (yes I know it's run by the same company that puts out the Province.. it just happens to be 800 times better) and my paper here in Aus, the Sydney Morning Herald... who have an entirely daily back page devoted to nothing but taking the piss out of politicians, celebrities, atheletes, and everyone else who deserves it. Myra, you would love it.

Might I add..

How pissed off I was when 24 hours bragged (like a year ago) that they were now on level par with the Georgia Straight becaused the claimed similar readership numbers?

Listen you fucking beanheads, the only, and I mean ONLY regard in which one might compare your crap rag wiith the venerable Georgia Straight is the fact that they're both words and pictures printed on paper. That said, considering the Straight boasts superior words, pictures, and probably even paper, it's not really grounds for comparison after all, is it?

Get bent. For real.

Agreed.
I only read 24 because it doesn't stain my hands with newsprint. Its bus literature not to be taken too seriously.

You said it. What better way to get the public speaking the mantra you want though?

Admit it if you owned a publication such as 24 hours you'd probably think it's pretty ingenious. It's damn effective though, people haven't been more apt to have a newspaper make up their mind for them it seems.

I'm actually really interested in why you feel this way. Do you not trust any independant media...do you think that working at a larger company gives you better credentials therefore more acurate news, or is it some unseen variable?

I personally come from the understanding that no matter what, people in the media can be paid off, when the media constantly buys out other publications and homoginizes reports and stories to relatively the same political/social stance (Canwest what?) I feel only reading from papers such as the ones you listed is setting up the reader for an incredible biased, regardless of how skeptical they feel they are.

What do you think of http://www.indymedia.org/en/index.shtml by chance?

To me, someone out their risking their neck to post the story from the trenches so to speak has alot more potential credibility then someone toting a company line that has a paycheck waiting. I've been to my share of protests and have seen the mainstream media distort events to the point where many are just completely fabricated. Do you atleast see yourself having a biased taking the stance you do?
