Im not sure when this post was originally posted, but the current death count in Afghanistan of Canadians is 11 soldiers and one diplomat.

Thanks for posting up nonetheless 'Werd, and my condolences. If you want to join an event or picket in denouncing the current War in Afghanistan, or would like more information, or just want to bounce your anger and frustration off someone, give me a buzz, otherwise keep yo head up.

Ive noticed some sentiment revolving around said soldier dying for me, or us, or our country, and in response all i can say is FUCK YOU. These soldiers, our brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, moms, dads, may have joined the war or the military because they THOUGHT the were doing some good, but the war in Afghanistan is based in a lie, entrenched in a lie, and perpetuated through a lie. And everytime some -quasi-nationalistic/Canada kicks ass, lets support our soldiers- ignoramus talks about somebody dieing for a good cause, the lies leach deeper into our society. If your support your troops in Afghanistan, THEN BRING THEM HOME.

I couldn't agree with you more i haven't heard one positive thing about our troops being in Afghanistan. And like Nolan said what does our government expect to accomplish with 2500 men when the Soviet Union couldn't do anything with an army of 40,000 stationed in Afghanistan.

Basically the lefties are just opposed to the war on principle and people on the right are opposed because we don't have enough fire power. The problem though as we've seen in this type of scenario is that even if you have 150,000+ troops on the ground it still doesn't make a difference (ie Iraq) if the people oppose them being there. I guess my take at this point is that Afghanistan doesn't really seem to want democracy and certainly not from the barrel of a gun. If you look at the case of Abdul Rahman http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/asiapc....christian.ap/ you can see that such basic principles of democracy as freedom of religion are a long way off in Afghan culture. For that matter all sorts of human rights violations are occurring in Afghanistan on a regular basis and are justified in the court system through Sharia (Muslim law). What will be interesting is to see how this plays out though as in Afghanistan's constitution they have endorsed international treaties such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Under international law signing on to such a treaty would mean that those agreements would supersede any domestic laws. I guess the problem I see though is that if Canada and the other countries with draw troops Afghanistan will be in an immediate civil war. My question though is this; can we prevent a civil war from breaking out by staying there with the resources that have?

ech! Sorry bout the F-U, but bravery aside, in terms of putting such deaths into context for the general populace(not in terms of consoling friends and family) its important to stress the wasteful tragedy of the situation for a corrupt government/ruling elite agenda.
