I really dont care who has the vaster knowledge of fish...
If you got a beef with someone, have a beef with the guy who said to put them in saltwater. I want a good home for the fishies... So, follow the steps of the Big Al's fish emporium employees and take care of these lil buggers ;)~ Last edited by Turtle; May 24, 06 at 09:14 PM. |

Just for the record Mr Marine Biologist Cubed... we called a few fish stores and asked them a few questions and told them how we had them now. They all said that the environment that we have them living is appropriate for them. Enough said! |

Are the fish stores wrong?? Why would they tell me something different? And why the hell is this thread getting so out of hand??? |

Actually the majority of fish stores have no idea on how to take care of fish properly and are mostly out there for a sale. I personally only buy my stuff from 3 places. The only thing you can do is check out the net and message boards before you decide to make a purchase.
I must say I'm glad that you actually took the time to do a little research, thats alot more than most would do. It's important to realise that just because they are alive doesn't mean they are thriving. It's a shame that fish tend to be treated as disposable compared to other pets such as dogs and cats. I'm as guilty as anyone for not doing enough research when I first started this hobby 5- 10 years. My tank needs a little cleaning but you get the picture :) |

Suggestions for good referance material for keeping a Marine tank?
Like some good literature, or another Reliable source? Also, I'm curious as to prefered aquatic shops. I was told to go check out big al's but I was not really impressed with their conditions. I understand the relative difficulty of keeping a marine tank compared to a freshwater and would like to step out on the right foot here. Thanks in advance. yeah don't go to big al's they tend to be really expensive and have poor livestock.
as for resources on the net check out these forums. www.reefcentral.com www.nano-reef.com www.canreef.com www.aquariumpros.ca as for local shops if you are into marine check out www.jlaquatics.com in burnaby and www.oceanaquatics.com in ladner (These guys primarly deal in coral and have really smart staff) If you have any other questions let me know. I can post more pictures of the actual set- up if you want. That tank is a square tank approx 65 gallons, I run a 25 gallon sump in the stand with an external pump. I also have 400 Watts of metal halide lighting that you can't see in the picture :) |
