The tunnel had it's own problems what with the possibility of draining of watersheds up there, not to even mention the costs.

to hell with costs. . material wealth vs environmental preservation? If money is such a big deal, force them to pay a toll like they do on every other new highway they build in Canada and build a tunnel. They're already spending enough money each to send a hundred kids to school in Africa just to stay up in Whistler for a week. . . . what's another $10/person? If that extra bit of cash is too much, they can watch it on TV at home, and there won't be any need to clearcut for a highway!

I take it you've never been on the Coquihala. Did you know that toll was supposed to be temporary, just until they paid for the road? They've paid it off a hundred times now. Where is that money going? Into a slush fund. Hooray. We have the money to do anything and we've obviously got no problem paying tolls. This retarded rich cunt road deserves a toll anyway, tunnel or not. It's a luxury road. Now, not only are WE going to have to pay for it, whether we use it or not, but it's also creating a giant, ecosystem collapsing scar along the coastline. Boy, ain't humanity great?

Actually I have been many times. And I know the deal with that.

But what he was suggestion was moronic. Tolling every other highway around just to build a fucking tunnel when you can build a regular road for cheaper? Give me a break! Build the Road... Trees grow back.

I don't know about that. But all you have to do here to pay for the entire Olympics is put a toll on the rich cunt Sea To Die. That's it, nothing more. That would pay for the whole fucking road by the time the Olympics are here.

^ It's not just "Rich Cunts" that use the Sea-to-Sky Highway you know. They don't give you a Credit Check to access that Highway. It's a public througfare for access to communities up the Coast as well as the "Capitalist and Foreign Investor Swine Stronghold"...

The protesters advocate a tunnel highway.
Yet when the numbers are actually crunched the tunnel would actually
eliminate around 95% of the Greenspace the above ground highway would and be a potential threat to the underground waterway.

They clearly just want to save their version of "morgan creek".

Actually, that wasn't my suggestion at all. I suggested they toll THIS highway/tunnel to pay off for the initial expenses of building it LIKE they do with every other major highway they build nowadays in Canada. The Coq isn't the only tolled highway in the nation. That way it doesn't come out of tax payer's wallets. . just the people who use it. If there's enough people going to the olympics to warrant a highway, they'll be able ot pay it off no sweat.

And tree's grow back, but it won't be until our grandkids are grown up that they'll be back to their original prosperity. . . and who knows what the generation in between will do in that time. We're nothing more than a disease, a fungus, on the ecosystem. . . we should at least TRY to do something to take pressure off of the environment while we're saving ourselves a few hours on a drive to a world-famous ski resort.

tiedye: Did you know that it's actually healthy for a Forest to be cut once in awhile? The Old Growth stagnates and dies and acidifies the Soil. Too much canopy cover blocks natural light and limits ground Plant growth as well. Hence why Nature uses Forest Fires to rejuvenate the Soil and the Land around it. Selective Logging promotes growth and better Forests. So cutting a limited area for a Highway and replanting the surrounding area is a fine idea. There are many laws and limitations in place with Logging in British Columbia. You might want to pick up a copy of the Forest Practice Code of B.C. and take a look.

I've got a copy sitting on the bookshelf in the living room, actually. My dad logged for 20 years (throughout most of my childhood) and my mom scaled logs. . . I know all the in's and out's of the logging world, but I still don't agree with it - I never liked it as a kid; I climbed those things and they're cutting em down! We've got the technology to find alternative solutions to wood, yet it all boils down to one capitalist concept: we can't afford to better our lives and the world around us because we don't have to money.

And if Nature has it's own way of helping the forests out, let Nature do so. That's my opinion.

Wrong. Only people who need to go to Whistler (or its surrounding villas) use the SeaToDie. Therefore, they should pay for it. Since everyone has to use the Coq and everyone has to pay for it, why should the rich cunts going to Whistler have their road paid for by us as well? I'm never going to use the bastard.

My Head is far out of my ass. I'm sorry... I've used the Sea-to-Sky numerous times and not gone to Whistler. Like when I used to go Flying in Pemberton. Heading up the Coast to go to Sechelt... Bowen Island... other locales. You've got an awful lot of hate towards people with more money than you.

You'd fucking hate Toronto. lol

Opening up the corridor to Whistler/Blackcomb and the other communities will do nothing but promote growth and economic expansion which will benefit British Columbia as a Province. And face it, right now is the time to do it. With a economically conservative Government in place BC has nowhere to go but up! After years of the NDP fucking us over, it's time to turn things around.

tiedye: That's good... as long as you know the deal. I've got long time Friends that log in Williams Lake and have helped them numerous times operating Skidders and bucking Logs once in awhile. It's a respectable job, providing Timber for Homes and the Paper you write on every day. Logging is one of the staples of the B.C. economy.

a) The head-ass comment was a parody of GoodFlow's post and had nothing to do with you
b) Yes, I'd hate Toronto. It's an industrial/cultural wasteland. I don't hate people with more money than me because they have more money than me. I hate them because they get to destroy the environment and make money off it. No biggy, though. The earth has killed off it's entire population and rebooted before. It's not going anywhere. We sure as hell are. Enjoy extinction. Your money won't save you. Ta.
