First choice. My sister is a sushi freak and this is her all-time fav. They have a lot of fusion food and new kinds of sushi. They like to rework the menus a lot. It is nice inside and the servers are adorable and very, very kind.

Plus it's beside the candy aisel.

Take it from my family and I who are really really really really picky about good sushi.

Sushi House is honestly the best quality, best priced sushi in vancouver.

Damn I miss sushi.

In Australia, I ordered a tuna roll and got a roll with tuna fucking salad in it.

In Japan, well... it just isn't the same deal. At least not at anywhere I found.

Sushi in England? That's a laugh. These people don't even know what a vegetable is, or how to cook anything with a technique that doesn't involve frying in batter. I'm sure there's somewhere in London that's serviceable but it'd cost an arm and a leg.

I want to give a shout out to Sushi Bar on Burrard and 4th. I think a lot of purists might give me shit about it, but I ate there often and their speciality rolls are very creative and sometimes very tasty.. especially the Kamakaze roll.

Didn't hurt that I was stoned off my ass at the time, but man did it taste good.

Heh. For an island nation, Britain really is hurtin' on the oceanic cuisine. I've heard it's because there's just not much all that edible in the waters around there anymore (hence the big rush to fish off Newfoundland, apparently).

Nat you have to make sure I meet your bf!

Jim and I went to a really nice sushi resturant on Robson. I think its called (is-a-ky-a) ? Its on the north side towards Denman (accross from Guu) It's got black windows on the out side so its sometimes hard to miss.

Anyways its really nice and modern. For the first time ever I tryed half cooked tuna, squid, and eel... and loved it! One thing that I wish I tryed was their raw salmon that they cook with a blow torch in front of you on your table. A bit expencive, but very well presented and prepared tappa's.

:) Maybe we can have a sushi double-date?

Thanks for all the recommendations, guys! If anyone's down for hitting up some of these places with me before he comes out let me know! I need to form a favourite to take him to!

He owned Tama, as well.
My dad, brother and I would always sit at the sushi bar and he would cook just for us. We went there at least once per week, and my dad usually more often, so, consequently he and my dad became fairly good friends.

This thread is actually quite a good one seeing as it's hard these days to find good Japanese restaurants where the food is actually fresh :)

Tokyo John's on Cambie just revamped their menu. They're going for less selection, higher quality lately.

I had some last week and I must say I'm really freaking impressed. Some of the best sushi I've had in a while. Their salmon is wicked awesome.

Also if you like hella tasty salmon check out tanpoppo on Denman. Some of the best AYCE in town.

slighty off topic but not worthy of its own thread. Im trying to recall the name of this Teppanyaki joint i went to once in Vancouver, it was exellent and id like to go again. Unfortuantly i dont recall where it was other than the fact it was downtown, kinda small and upstairs... anyone? or any other good Teppanyaki recomendations for that mater?
