Jan Bulis the current newest canuck
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=172209&hubname=nhl
hot karl likey. i been eyeing this guy as a cheap add on with some ok 3rd liner scoring. 1.3 for the year is plenty fair. 40pts type o' guy. i just wanted us to upgrade our 3rd lines, provided we could keep carter. but right now chouinard, pyatt and bulis are significant upgrades from our bums past the 2nd line. if nonis can get carter back without breaking the bank, and i think the longer it takes the better chance of it. especially with tdot signing peca. but talk is cheap, we'll see where htis team sits cap wise. according to tsn: Roberto Luongo $6 million Markus Naslund $6 million Daniel Sedin $3.575 million Henrik Sedin $3.575 million Mattias Ohlund $3.5 million Willie Mitchell $3.5 million Brendan Morrison $3.2 million Matt Cooke $1.5 million Sami Salo $1.5 million Jan Bulis $1.3 million Marc Chouinard $1.1 million Taylor Pyatt $700,000 grand total=35.45million apparently this doesn't include 2 way contracts. so ear mark 2million for rookies etc like burrows/reid/king/kesler. |

^ i have mixed feelings but i don't like the fact were at 35 million and we don't have top right winger or second line right winger.
In my opinion the first 2 lines should be the first to get signed. than again its all about managing the money too which usually means the first 2 lines cost the most. I do like our defence though. i have mixed feelings.. i still don't think luongo should be makin more than 6 though. i think 5 or 5.5 would have been the maximum for the first year with an increase the next season and so on |

Ohlund, Salo and Luongo should be pretty solid. And mitchell is a pretty good stay at home defencemen. I do think he is getting a little too mu ch though |
|

Ya its a good acquisition, I think he'd play nice along side cooke. ohlund salo lungo mitchell , yeah I think that may prove to be a good combo.. you only really need 2 solid D lines. All we need is luongo to shut the door and the canucks can pull off 2-3 goals to get wins no prob. Just as long as we have Carter, without him the sedins will lose their magic I think. Then Naslund might play good with chouinard I think.. Who knows, either way It'll be interesting.

He was +19 last season with over 20 minutes a game. Again what's not to like? |

^ meh if he can setup naslund like he was in 2002. Naslund can have finally hit the 50 goal mark which he almost had in 2002.
i think bulis maybe play on the second line if nonis can't sign carter. I don't htink morrison will have a career year but he might be better than he was last year.. shouldn't be that hard. p.s: grapes whats wrong with the other three. u talking about the third and four pair of d or like ohlund and company. true we don't have an offensive defensemen now beside salo but ohlund is good for abotu 13 or 14 goals and solid d. i think we'll be alright if we can get one top winger to work with naslund and morisson |

Of course I love Ohlund and Salo. No brainer. I might not be as impressed with Mitchell as some other people but he's an NHL defenseman. That makes 3. Who are the other 3? |

Also what's the deal with Artem Chubarov? He has never shown a lot of offensive flair but was good in face off's and solid on D. |
|

We don't need more than 3 solid d men. we have luongo for a reason.
mitchell is solid as a stay at home d, salo will put up good numbers. ohlund is just ohlund. the other three shouldn't matter too too much in my opinion, but i think they are weinrich, sean brown, and that krajik or whatever dude |

I didn't say it doesn't matter I said its not a liability. As in you don't need your third and fourth pair of d to be superstars.
they don't play nearly as much as the top two lines, and they aren't expected to put up good numbers. Just play some d. even if luongo isn't as good as projected we still have a solid two pairs of d in front of him. mitchell, ohlund and salo is a pretty solid group. "Pre-season optimism springs eternal." that isn't pre-season optimism i believe this for every team in the NHL. I believe past your top 4 its not nearly as important for the rest of the d. especially if your goalie is projected to be an elite goalie. even if he hasn't played a single post season game. u think i'm a canuck fan first before a hockey fan. |

"Pre-season optimism springs eternal. "
I was basically saying everything I said wasn't because of optimism for the Canucks. Its not hope its what I believe based on what I know about hockey. Anywho continue on. Bulis could always put up career numbers with the sedins |

And Kenji, even IF this setup is considered sufficient, what the F happens when one or more D-men go down injured? Sorry, but to go from Jovo, Ohlund, Salo, Sopel, Allen, Malik or Baumgartner to Ohlund, Salo, Mitchell, journeyman, rookie, corpse just does not seem like a drift in the right direction to me. |
