Your Dream Rave
I was dinning out with some buddies today and we got to the discussion of what our perfect and dream rave would be. We discussed everything from the location, to the setup, to the DJs that would spin, to the styles of music, and much more.
What is YOUR dream rave? I will start first... My dream rave would take place on a deserted island, like in the movie "The Beach" with Leonardo DiCaprio. It can be a real island that no one knows about or it can be man-made - either one is a perfect location for me. Over there I would have three 'stages' so to say... The outdoor 'stage' would be by the beach or the surrounding bodies of water from the ocean. It would also have massive walkable platforms that would stretch out over the water, as well as be able to have stages built on them. The indoor stage would be inside a massive rock cave (like in the end of the movie "Underworld: Evolution"). It would have all kinds of lights you could possibly have and also an incredible audio setup (caves have awesome acoustics). The final stage, which is neither indoor or outdoor, but is sorta weird - would be inside of an abandoned, old and rusted train or skytrain - each cabin would have a different kind of music in it with a different DJ spinning in each cabin. The first cabin would start out with the most chill music and as you would make your way up the cabins, the music would get louder and more intense - ending with some pretty crazy genres for an out of body experience. My island would also have places for people to stay, but no hotels or houses... it would all be outdoor - there would be no rain or shitty weather and no insects - so everyone could sleep outside on the beach or in their tents because the temperature always stays warm. I would also have bars right alongside all the big 'stages' so that you could pick your choice of drinkable poison at any time you desire. Ahh... dream on. |

Pat - I'm a fuckin' dreamer man. I imagine and I dream. I create... illusions. My whole life has been a dream of an existance so far. Sometimes I think about thinking...
OK - honestly now, I was bored, so I decided to write what I talked about with my friends. |

While the vibe was top-notch, I could have done with something other than nuskool and techhouse. Only techno set was Lorin Bassnectar and he was rather disappointing. Only dnb was capital j and I couldn't last his set longer than 15 minutes. The psytrance tent was like the default the-music's-sucking-everywhere-else-so-i'll-just-listen-to-goa-with-the-hippies stage. I understand last year the music was a bit better but they took out the Ewok village and made it another mainstage, which is sad because it was the coolest big stage they had there. Though I guess "dream party" works because given the state of mind i was in at the time, it kinda feels like it was a dream, y'know? |

Two_Six's Dream Rave:
It would be in a old under ground subway station, like the ones in Europe. 4 main stages at every corner, world class dj's at the decks. Tons of lasers everywhere with black lights. Everyone would be wearing all white clothing and the best E would be served and it would be all legal. Also no undercover narcs and no security guards. It would be a hardcore underground rave and only a select few would know about it, only the true hardcore ravers would be there. |

A house party isn't a rave either. WTF? Vancouver's skyline is rising, which means we may very well see an increase in rooftop raves in the next 5 years... especially while the olympics are in town... That could be potentially hella fun. And I will say, the best raves I've been to are the ones that aren't necessarily populated by ravers, but by people of all different walks. A few years back there was a show in a warehouse in Van that just plain rocked the house because there were ravers, fetishists, techno hippies, clubkids.... just a hodgepodge of different scenes. Those raves are the legendary ones. And they don't happen nearly often enough in this city. |
