Tess n Bob's Travels: Trip Report for "Naked Air" 05/03
The Concept: When Champagne talked us about a "naked" flight a couple of years ago, we knew we were in. Just name the time and the place and we'd be there. We had already experienced diving naked, driving an RV across country (to get to Swingstock) naked, and many other wonderful experiences... but flying naked? This would be fun. The Media: I don't think anyone expected the media attention that this flight spurned. This story was on the Tonight Show (at least 4 times), David Letterman, the O'riley Factor, CNN, Larry King, the View, the Today Show and every network news station. It also made many local, national and even international newspapers and radio stations. I was interviewed from Madrid, Spain and Columbia to name a few. Dispite all of this attention, Castaways did a great job protecting everyone's identity and scheduled a press conference in the Miami Airport. This satified the press' thirst for information and allowed those not willing to talk to the press complete anonymity. Kudo's to Castaways for handling every detail with professionalism and untiring resolve. All on board: We were very excited when the plane pulled up. The crew put a custom "Naked Air" or a Castaways head rest and a bright red souvenir towel on every seat. We couldn't wait to take off because we had to wait until the plane was at cruising altitude before we could undress. An interesting sidenote: The plane we were scheduled to use was also used by Bush & Cheney during their presidential campaign (turned out that another plane was substituted at the last minute). It was nicknamed "Air Force Three". When I recently told a friend of the how ironic that would have been to use that same plane, she said" I don't see much of a difference, you had a Dick and a Bush on one flight and a bunch of dicks and bushes on the other". Sorry, I just had to share that with you. The fasten seat belt sign has been turned off: When we finally got to cruising altutude, the purser told us that the "fasten seatbelt sign had been turned off" and we were "free to move about the cabin". We knew what this meant and un-buckle we did. It took less than 5 minutes for everyone in the cabin to undress and put on the biggest smiles you've ever seen. The Flight: I couldn't believe how fast the trip turned out to be. One hour seemed like only 15 minute. I have never seen a group of travelers so disapointed that they were landing on their way to a beautiful resort. By the way, I know your already wondering, but the crew was dressed and very professional the entire trip. I'm not sure how much they had to pay to get that particular flight, but they had a great attitude and made the flight an even better experience. They served cold drinks (no hot coffee or tea!), snacks and sandwiches. We will count this as one of our most memorable trips. We are waiting for Castaways to book a "walk in space nude" trip. Just let us know when the launch date is Champagne, we'll be there... |
