^ reminds me of the great rave dramas of like 2002? Started with some massive where a ton of huge-name artists from all over the world were booked to play at some massive out in popkum or somewhere. Artists are booked, contracts are signed, deposits are paid, party is promoted everywhere. Day of the party arrives, a bunch of the artists are actually flown out to Vancouver and.... the promoter cancels at the party last minute (rumour was pre-sales sucked) leaving a bunch of out-of-town artists in vancouver looking for gigs to get some money they were promised. Also, there was no real annoucement of the cancellation so a bunch of people drove all the way out to the site and found absolutely nothing...
Also there was this big brouhaha when someone deliberately scheduled a massive on the same date as another massive cause he was mad at the promoter or something. Needless to say, both parties ended up losing a lot of cash... I think one was the daytime one at thunderbird... Last edited by dj_soo; Aug 25, 06 at 01:31 PM. |

Hrm....
I remember maybe 5 years ago, there was a very large company that was doing parties, and met their demise quickly. They hired the headliners, reserved sound, pretty much had everything right down to the Venue planned. But at the last minute didn't have a venue. They had already broken even and made money on the pre-sales. They ended up not doing the show due to no venue. Instead of refunding the money, they flew away to Ibiza and partied there for the next few months. They stiffed everyone, including DJ's, sound and ravers alike. Funny enough, they are doing shows today. Goes to show scandal doesn't last long in Vancouver. |

either way i still mean it. ps: i went ot that shitty party a few years ago at popkum, the one without the sound or anything. the only decent part of the night was another car pumping out drum and bass. i had not heard much before then and started to dig it that night. other then that.....the night was ass. That was my car. We arrived at about midnight to no sound and a bunch of freezingcold grumpy partygoers, so we opened the hatch of our car and turned up the dnb. That attracted a few people, and we even had people dancing around it at one point. For the record, someone somehow got scaffolding and sound and stuff and there was music by about 2 until 7 or 8 or something. It was pretty much all dnb though, since the local dnb dj's were pretty much the only ones who showed up (along with *snip*, who flew himself out from the UK only to find himself out in the woods with about 100 kids, I can't imagine what he thought of the situation), and that made all the ravers who came out for happy hardcore headliners pretty crabby. There were also some guys who went into town and bought a flat of water, which they proceeded to sell for $10 a bottle. What a mess. I did have fun, though. Even though it was way too fucking cold. I left parts of the story out due to the sensitive nature. But there is no reason to rehash the rest. Some might say that retribution came hard.

lol... one year (98 i think) in the area I live at the moment (Okanagan), there was a big two day put on by a major Vancouver promoter, for some reason another crew decided to do an event the exact same weekend in the exact same town (with a far better lineup imo)... the venue they chose was on Indian land and the entire space was covered in cactuses and tumble weeds. not good for dancing (me and another guy unwittingly break danced in a big patch of catuss lol).. they didn’t make enough sales to keep the party going so on what was supposed to be day two they packed up all their shit while everyone was still sleeping in the their tents and canceled the rest…apparently one of the headliners got stranded

One of my DJ's on my stage last year at Apex, somehow managed to split his only pair of pants. There was a very large hole in the crotch and he wasn't wearing anything underneath.
When he was playing, every time he moved, if you were standing behind the stage, you got a glimpse of everything he had to offer. It didn't help that he was drunk and didn't care. :p He gave new meaning to rocking out with his cock out that night. |

My first gig, i was nervous as ever. First of all my headshells werent screwed in properly, which was giving a very loud feedback noise until someone decided to check them. My headphones were not screwed in the adapter properly, which made my headphones not work properly AT ALL thruout half my set, and i got confused with which fader worked with which deck. which totally fucked me up for the first 15 mins. not fun at all. but i figured it all out within about 25 mins, so i had another half an hour to do a propper job. Its all just cuz i was nervous.
