RIP Steve Irwin
Sydney (dpa) - Australian crocodile hunter and zookeeper extraordinaire Steve Irwin died Monday after being speared in the heart by the barb of a stingray while he was shooting a marine documentary off Cairns in far-north Queensland.
There were no further details about the death of the 44-year-old madcap environmentalist who made a fortune from his Crocodile Hunter feature film and television series. Khaki-clad Irwin courted controversy several years ago when cameras at his Australia Zoo on Queensland's Sunshine Coast caught him feeding chicken to a hungry four-metre crocodile with one hand while holding month-old son Bob in the other. The stunt, performed in front of a paying audience, flashed on television screens across the world and had viewers wondering whether he had taken leave of his senses. The incident at Australia Zoo drew instant comparisons with the outrageous behaviour of Michael Jackson, who in 2002 dangled his baby over the balcony of a German hotel. |

i hate to say this, but who honestly didn't see this one comming?
i mean, when a movie actor dies in a plane crash, yeah that comes out of left field. but we are talking about a guy who risked his life on t.v. over and over again. now don't get me wrong, his death is very unfortuante turn of events and my condolences are with his wife and family, but this was merely a risk he took every day. sometimes he would come out on top, and other times he didn't. this just happened to be one of the times in which he didn't, and it cost him his life. RIP Steve Irwin. |

well, i'm neutral on the guy.
he was quite the showman, but many times he went too far disturbing wildlife for his own fame. leave nature alone. and that time when he did the michael jackson thing held out his baby infant within feet of a huge crocodile. that's insane. |

everyone keeps saying he should have been killed by some crazier animal like a croc or a cobra or something....but the fact is he was skilled around those animals.....he knew how to deal with every animal and how much he could push his luck with them.....and the fact here is it was a freak accident....an animal that is generally not very harmful happened to shoot a long projectile at him (into his heart to boot).....crocodiles and other animals dont shoot stuff at him (and especially not unexpectedly)
