"PS3 vs. Wii" battle continues...
Live stats taken from: http://nexgenwars.com/ Here's a Google Fight of PS3 vs. Wii: http://www.googlefight.com/index.php...=PS3&word2=Wii It is clear that Wii is kicking major ass in the market right now... but do we know why? This article explains what has been happening lately: Quote:
Edit: Sorry, wrong forum. I think this should be in the Gaming Guru forum instead. Mods... |

I still dont understand how people are breaking them, theres no game designed to swing the wiimote around from your wrist, unless it slips out of sweaty hands.

^^ lol Robb, my exact thoughts. I have a PS2 myself (which I got just recently) - so that I could get all my currently favorite games and my past favorite games, including extremely rare and hard to find games that I scrubbed off Ebay and from all kinds of weird places - and I haven't even opened more than half them yet.
No time for this stuff... |

I was looking at the technical specification comparison between Xbox360, PS3, and Wii and I'm surprised how weak the specifications of Wii are... and yet it's doing awesome in sales right now. See for yourself:
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/xbox360_vs_ps3.asp I guess Wii games aren't as graphic intensive, but where's the fun in that? The last time I checked, every major game console maker was striving for the most realistic looking graphics, and yet here's a BRAND NEW product with below average specs. How does that work? |

Nintendo has the all-ages powerhouse franchises and most memorable characters (think zelda, mario, donkey kong etc.) and the casual gamers behind them (just look at al the stories on the net about parents and non-games loving the wii).
Xbox has the hardcores and the online addicts and a few key franchises but not much that breaks into the casual gamers/mainstream crowd (other than say halo) PS3 has some hefty 3rd party franchises on lockdown (Final Fantasy, Metal Gear) and some 1st party franchises that are system sellers (Gran Turismo) but also a bunch of mediocre franchises. People like to think that launches will depict how the system will do long-run but that's generally a crock - Dreamcast sold a then record breaking number of units at launch and fizzled pretty quickly - the PS1 had a incredibly mediocre launch and took over the market thanks to FF7. It really will boil down to software and especially exclusive titles as it always has. All the big publishers will be creating cross-platform games but it's up to the console companies to secure some attractive franchises or create some hot new shit (like Gears of War) in order to move systems. Personally, I'd like to see Sony taken down a notch - especially considering how they completely bungled the launch, but I don't realy want to see microsoft win the cosole war either - still rooting for the big N since they actually innovate with their titles and systems... |

i'd personally go for the ps3 because of the kick ass graphics, the low price for a blu ray player and they have some nice exclusive games. xbox360 is a turn off because its microsoft, what soo ^^ said. and wii kinda looks retarded if you ask me. sure its fun when there's a bunch of drunk people or a group of kids playing, but a lot of times gamers play alone at home and call me silly but i dont think i'd want to stand in the middle of my living room waiving my arms around like a spazing out heh.
i'd classify xbox360 and ps3 in the more serious gamer category and wii more for kids and amateurs who want a cheaper alternative to gaming. |

i've been a gamer for 20 years and i've been working in the video game industry for 8 years and nothing so far has excited more me in terms of design potential than the Wii has. |

I bought a wii for its revolutionary style of gameplay, for zelda, and for the upcoming super smash brawl. I chose to not buy the ps3 because : 1. I cant afford it, 2. Im more into multiplayer gameplay, 3. Graphics are not a huge issue for me, as long as its fun I dont care.
If I really wanted top end graphics in a game, I'll upgrade my computer. |

I'm of the understanding that it will still be capable of the oldschool/standard type of control setup for the stubborn purists. |

chances are, you don't have a tv good enough to really appreciate what it's supposed to be able to do. the majority of people don't. most people don't even have tvs good enough to get everything out of a regular DVD player. have fun buying all your movies all over again. on a side note, wii doesn't need as graphics as good as ps3/xbox. they have different games, and they don't use that as a selling quality. all nintendos have been like that. i mean seriously, it comes down to mario. since when is he supposed to be looking like a real person?! |
