Engineering An Empire.
I've bin watching this series on history channel for the last couple month and find myself fascinated with it.
I've always bin interested in topics such as the Roman empire and the empire of Alexander the great and this show has showed in detail how great the engineering of this time actually was. Tonight it's focusing on the greatness of the persion empire. Anybody else interested in this subject and catch the show? |

Rome, the series is more like desperate housewives for really really old people (about 2100 years). Still good though, full of lots of pagan sex and historical nuggets.
It's great learning about ancient civilizations, the greeks had this one astrological instrument that used ideas incorporated in 18th century clocks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antikythera_mechanism Also the ancient eastern civilizations especially surrounding the Vedic and sanskrit language have a huge influence too, you may want to look into that. I haven't seen this engineering empires i don't think; So it's on Tuesdays? I'm looking to get the Planet Earth HD (final) release when it comes out in a few months. Such a wicked series with the best wildlife shots. Clay if your into that sorta thing you may be interested in the book Guns, Germs and Steel and the subsequent 3 part documentary they had on Discovery(?). |

I also thought the series Rome was a little more dramatic then i had expected.
Amd i caught part of that guns, germs, and steel series on history channel and really enjoyed it. I found that one really interesting. There's another one i've caught on history channel a couple times called 'metropolis' which was also really good. The first one i saw was about Alexandria and the second one i saw was about Paris. Not sure how many episodees are in that series. And engineering an empire is on Mondays at 8pm. I think they also re-air the episode on Sundays though. |
