3D movies & televisions
So, i'm sure you've seen avatar at least once. Did you see it in 3D? My complaint for the movie was that the stuff in 3D was blurry, yet still stunning. At the end of the movie i enjoyed the movie but was left wondering what it would look like in 2D. anyone feel that way too?
So, this year 3D televisions will be coming out. There've been enough movies released with 3D technology for it to be worth it i suppose. But i wonder how long it'll take for this to catch on. In my opinion, It'd be great if you could take off your glasses mid-movie and not have a blurry pile of shit on screen if you opt out of the 3D-ness. They are attempting to port ps3 games in 3D as well too! they put little big planet on 3d and apparently it's good? but like, you'd need to wear those glasses. I hear movies are calibrated for the average head size. What i mean is, it assumes that the space between your eyes is 2.5 inches. But as we all know, we all have different sized heads. So does that mean movies and games will be more blurry for people with a non-average size space between their eyes? things that make you go hmm... |

I was just thinking about this topic.
Since I often watch movies from streaming sites, I'm wondering if they will start showing the 3-d versions. After all, I've been saving my 3-d specs from other 3-d flicks in the cinema, just for this reason. Now, for Xmas, my sis gave me the dvd of "Coraline". It includes a 3-d format version of the film, and the pkg said it came w/ 4 pairs of 3-d glasses. Well, fine and all, I thought, but I've already got a few pairs of polarized glasses standing by, thankyouverymuch. However, upon opening it, I found that the 3-d version is NOT polarized, but in the old-tech version of red/blue! This kind of floored me! So, me and a bud watched it on my computer screen, and, the effect _was_ quite fucking good, but, there's still that disconcerting colour-shift that goes on w/ this format. Another mate dropped by, and we were watching it on my old tv, but, the effect was not that great, so, we finished watching it on my computer screen to much better quality. Now, wtf is the deal w/ "special" 3-d format televisions?! By theory, ANY monitor should be able to screen a polarized version of any film in 3-d format! So, can someone explain to me why there needs to be a specialized monitor to support this image? And, back to my first question: Do you think that online hosts will start offering up 3-d versions in the polarized platform? Frosty (curious) |

I can see the benefits of 3D in a GUI to access your media and information. But for a complete conversion to 3D for broadcast and film I find a bit far fetched. The technology is kitchy and serves a purpose to get people interested in going to a live movie again. As for long term adoption it'll probably get to the "rich dad home theater" status much like Laser Disc's. They have TV sets that don't require 3D glasses but the whole interest in the technology is only sustainable in theaters on a larger screen. I'm sure it will always serve a purpose but certain films have their character from the format they are displayed in. 3D would be great for big blockbusters but for the average film i doubt it.
