Tom Bombadil, Bombadilo! Only the best character of all Tolkien work! I was so pissed when they cut him out of FOTR, but apparently he was only going to "confuse audiences." Anyway, Return of the King will be awesome, I can't wait to see Eowyn fight, that should be interesting.

And of course the movie will be awesome.. after the first two being as amazing as they were and completely living up to what was possibly the highest expectations for a movie ever, i doubt they could screw it up now... gonna be good. |

Chronology: Between when they leave the Shire and meet up with Strider (aka Aragorn) Tom is a crazy mofo they meet on their way through this extremely old haunted forest and nobody ever goes there cauz the trees REALLY don't like people. I believe Tom is the oldest character in the entire story - although they never really get into who he really is - but basically they meet him (and thus don't die in the forest), chill at his house, and leave. Not much happens with Tom but his character is pretty cool. He is alluded to later in the book as well, but that is the only about all he has to do with the rest of the story... it's also sort of mentioned that he might have crazy powers and such (??) - been a while since I've read the book. but on that note - you should read the book anyway, easily one of the best reads your have in your life whether or not you are into fantasy type stuff... simply excellently written. |

Tom wouldn't come 'cause he's the master of the forest. He doesn't want to leave the bounderies of his land. They explained it at the counsil of Elrond...in the books. They wanted to send the ring to tom, but decided against it 'cause he would be careless, and throw the ring away by accident. Tom is cool though, and save's the hobbits' asses many times in the book.

And yes. Pippin goes badass. Still miffed no scouring. Cuz it would be nice to see all the hobbits all posse'd out and ready to kick some severe Saruman and Wormtongue ass. Lord of the Rings is well worth the read. It's well worth getting yourself to actually read it. Here's a suggestion: If you're not ready to start reading something as monolithic as LotR right off the bat, start off with some shorter stories that aren't as hefty and work your way up to the Epics. I recommend Philip K. Dick short stories as a starter, after that move up to some Chuck Palahniuk [sic?] novels (Fight Club is a good one) and then look at some stuff like Dune. Then sit through the hobbit (a bit of a dry read but a good way to start getting into LotR) and then tackle the series. You'll come out of it a better person for it. Trust me. |
