And yes. Pippin goes badass.
Still miffed no scouring. Cuz it would be nice to see all the hobbits all posse'd out and ready to kick some severe Saruman and Wormtongue ass.
Lord of the Rings is well worth the read. It's well worth getting yourself to actually read it.
Here's a suggestion: If you're not ready to start reading something as monolithic as LotR right off the bat, start off with some shorter stories that aren't as hefty and work your way up to the Epics. I recommend Philip K. Dick short stories as a starter, after that move up to some Chuck Palahniuk [sic?] novels (Fight Club is a good one) and then look at some stuff like Dune. Then sit through the hobbit (a bit of a dry read but a good way to start getting into LotR) and then tackle the series.
You'll come out of it a better person for it. Trust me.

Definitely on the mark, although i don't know about reading Dune as a build up to LotR - that's a whole new can of worms of it's own... a little more philosophical than this story. And Mr. Wrong - the entire story is about 4000-4500 pages depending on which printing you get, definitely not for the faint of heart, but more than worth it! Like i said before, this is the story that more or less created the fantasy genre as you know it today and nothing has touched it since!
