Doom is tempted ot see this, what with the wholesale destruction and all... however, the science in the movie is pretty fuckin' shitty.. not as bad as say... "The Core" (which is proven to drop 15 points off a person's IQ at first viewing), but still bad enough that he'd be cringing psychic pain throughout the movie.

I liked the action but the story and the love interest were to blend together the movie made it feel that it was more important to save a father son relationship then save people in general. Volcano was a way better movie and it had LAVA

Personally, I don't think this was a bad movie. It was by no means an oscar movie either. This is just a giant special effects spectacle, which is not to say it is without merit. Although convoluted by ill-placed humor and truncated romances, there is a definite message conveyed through this movie, regarding the future of our planet. Obviously, this doomsday scenario is overstated (hopefully it is), but we ARE slowly killing our planet, so the message seems to be to conserve, stop wasting, slow down on fossil fuels, and ultimately band together as a species. I found it humorous how the great US of A was clambering to get INTO Mexico. I thought they migrated the other way? lol And as far as Canada is concerned, at least we were mentioned in this movie, not like in Independence Day where we weren't even on the map. I'm sure the Canadians were able to hole up in igloos before the ice sheet hit ;)

WAIT FOR DVD, PEOPLE!!!
My man and I saw it on $5 tuesday at new west so it's not like it was a HUGE waste, but pleaaaaaaaase save your money and DON'T watch it at a full-price theatre. The special effects were cool, but I was expecting soooo much more. I'm with Liam...poor us Canadians =( |

i think this is the PERFECT movie to see in a big theatre....based soley on the big effects and sound design.
watching at home wont do the movie justice at all cause without that huge wave on the big screen with the big sound....your left with a mediocre hollywood flick. its like watching starwars at home. its just not the same......dig? |

this movie didn't make the americans look like heroes in my eyes. it made them look somewhat stupid (the vice president) and pretty humble too. didn't you listen to the speech the 'president' gave at the end of the movie about how mother nature rules all and they're all guests in the third world countries now. i thought that was really cool. plus unlike other disaster movies they didn't come up with some stupid plan to stop everything and fix the world, they just had to let it happen. it's cool to see mother nature win sometimes. |

yes okay, there were parts that were typical...like the father trying to get to his son and all that stupid crap. but here are the main differences between this movie and other american produced disaster films: the main difference is that they did not come up with a way to 'beat' the problem. example: Deep Impact and Armaggedon - blowing up the meteors Volcano - deflecting the volcanic flow into the ocean The Core - restarting the core of the earth by travelling to the centre of the earth and using nuclear weapons to start it spinning again. Independence Day: stopping the aliens with a computer virus in this movie they didnt' come up with some big plan to like re-heat the earth and save they day. they had to deal with mother nature being the winner. that's a VERY different thing from other disaster movies. also, if you noticed there was very little american flag waving in this film. the vice president was made out to look like an uniformed asshole who then has to be humble at the end of the film and admit he and the american public were wrong for treating those third world countries badly because now they were all 'guests' in their country. if anything, it was a humbling movie for americans because they were beat by mother nature and then had to go and live in places that they used to build their Nike shoes. |
