War of the Worlds
It was ok I guess... seemed really short to me. I never read the book so I dont really have much to compare it to except maybe the original movie, in which case I think the original was more enjoyable to watch. I wont give anything away but to sum it all up, the special effects are alright, humanity is annoyingly dumb, and lots of screaming.
I would prob give it a 6/10 |

All that happens in the book is:
The aliens land in shperes that start pushing out parts which eventually make tripods , which the aliens sit in , and fire lasers at people. The main character watches a bunch of people die and then ends up hiding with some crazy bastard .....then a ship rams one of the tripods , and then all the aliens die because their immune systems can't handle earths viruses. And there are weeds that eat all the vegetation...... P.s. Tom cruise is a crack head. |

I read the unabridged version from the late 1800's....it sucked. Tom cruise jumps on couches and talks about how he is in love too much ,and he sucks as well. Save your money and rent Bill and Teds excellent adventure. |

yeah i read the unabridged version, too...published in 1898. really clever story, but damn he's a friggin' boooooring writer.
i hope they stay true to the aliens dying of bacteria...i think that's a smart idea. probably would happen. totally exposed to new forms of bugs. it even happens on earth when peopel travel. |

ps. did you also notice that there was virtually NO character development in the book. i read a whole two chapters that were from the brother's point of view, thinking it was the main character. seriously, if you asked me to describe the characters in the book i could do it. i don't even know their names. |

I thought the movie put more focus on the atmosphere of global terror than the actual story, and that to me made it an excellent movie... I really like the horn sound those machines let off before their killing sprees... its like those sirens in world war 2 movies that scream right before the missiles blow the fuck out of them... the sound of pure terror...
well done IMO |

^that's how the ending was in the book. no big last fight or anything. i think it's a very clever ending...i understand that it all happens really quickly, but when you think about the actual ending it makes a lot of sense...that's probably what realistically would happen if aliens ever came to earth.

Ya I know but if I had been planning for that long I like to think I would of had the forsight to think of disease and stuff like that.
Ohh and I never read the book but the way it was portrayed to me I expected a galatic battle near the end IE Independence Day style. Left me in a little bit of a disarray. |

you know what i thought was kinda funny about the ending of independence day? it's basically the same as war of the worlds.
except instead of a virus attacking the body they used a virus to attack the ships. at least that's how i think it went...i saw it when it was in the theatres and i was high on acid. is that how it ended? or was i just tripping? |

i didn't think it was disapointing at all.
i thought it was a new and fresh way to look at an alien invasion. usually these stories are told from the point of view of some military figure, or you get shots of the president making decisions on sending nuclear warheads to the aliens, etc... i like how this movie was just from the point of view of some average joe who didn't know what was going on (and no military person was going to tell him what was going on). it was how it would be to actually be in a situation like that...completely confusing and not knowing what is attacking you or anything about them. |
