Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
A few points:
1. Tim Burton still is, and will always be my hero. 2. Johnny Depp is excellently creepy, and portrays Dahl's wonka much truer than in the previous version (although wilder did do a great job!) 3. AMAZING casting, violet, augustus, veruca and mike were all actually very very close to the original characters in the movies 4. stays truer to the book than the original movie! the squirrels are baaack GO SEE IT!~@$!@#$@# |

"Daddy, i want another pony"
I really enjoyed this movie....and so did my three little female and one male cousins. Some hot hits ...like "chewing...chewing...chewing" One personal fault: i'm just not in love with that dude who plays charlie, after finding neverland...i dunno ...i just dont like him despite how well he fit the part. And i did miss my favorite track from the older version, "cheer up charlie." All in All..Tim Burton and Depp always go well together!! LOVED IT Just wish i had my own glass elevator... |

I saw it yesterday at the imax with my 3 year old nephew (whos age i lied about to get him in free.. is that bad? $13.75 for a 3 year old is crazy!!) It was EXCELLENT. I wasnt crazy about the oompa loompas but either way.. still an outstanding movie. ;D |

Saw this last night in 3D imax with George and Carlos...the introduction to Jonny Depp, before he says anything, the silence of the audience and screen...George blurts out "omg, its Micheal Jackson!" EVERYONE laughed.
it was gold. i love how all the umpa lumpas were the same face. *sooo creepy. "im sorry, i was just having a flashback." "does those happen offten?" "no, just today." Bwahaha, and you can take that to the bank! |

what a fucking awesome film! i just saw it last night and was a little nervous going into it (though Burton is my favourite director and rarely disappoints).
it was a different feel than the first movie, but i think this one definitly explored the book better than the first film. depp's wonka is more of a child-like socially inept and deeply harmed character, while wilder's wonka was more of the eccentric scientist character. both were great. the movie looked absolutely amazing. the sets were burton's usual twisty, creepy and other-worldly sets and the script was witty and really funny. the one thing that bothers me was the portrayal of the oompa-loompa's as a small brown man. why did they have to bring race into this? they could have made them orange or blue or another colour just like in the first film to avoid any resemblance to a real race on earth. i keep imagining kids pointing at short brown men on the street and going, "look mommy! an oompa-loompa!" 4/5 can't wait to see it again. |

Dahl had issues with that in his book, too. i heard he actually had to re-write parts that dealt with the oompa-loompas because there were complaints that it was too close to slavery and such. edit: i don't mean to say that they did this intentionally at all. just saying that i think it would have been better had they been blue or green or another colour that humans don't usually come in.
