did I say i hang out with alot of children?
NO i do not believe i did. funny story; my first word was "No" Instead of answering my question with a stupid irrelvent question, why dont you back up your claims with some evidence. Last edited by -evil-duerr-; Apr 22, 06 at 11:31 AM. |

but for every person who actually buys into all the advertizing. there is another who is just as skeptical as yourself. The tv isnt to blame for obnoxious oblivious attitudes. You can blame genes and parenting for that one. what picks me is your cliche view on how the world is full of sheep . When maybe if you actually talked to some of these people, you'd find out, that after workin a 9-5 job for 20 years, rasing children, actually living life - People are too fucking tired and wrapped up with LIVING LIFE, to really give a shit about all the teenager/20-something "THE WORLD IS GOING TO HELL" attitudes of people like yourself. now unless your "wifeless uncle bob" when yer 40 years old. I highly doubt you'll still gonna be ranting about all this b.s. when there is so much more to be thinking about. Last edited by -evil-duerr-; Apr 22, 06 at 12:13 PM. |

mangle, the ammount of deluded bullshit that you believe is unreal.
just because it was in adbusters doesn't mean it's true. oh my god, what an academic source! i think adbusters is a cool 'zine...but i wouldn't trust them for statistics like that...i mean, they're obviously slightly biased, wouldn't you say? advertising is shitty, i agree. i'm happy that vancouver is pretty ad free (as far as large cities go). i mean, holy shit, times square in new york is unbelieveable. you can't turn anywhere without seeing an ad and sometimes they take up the sides of whole buildings...it's almost beautiful in its disgustingness. but i don't think that advertising is as big a problem as everyone makes it out to be. i mean, sure i see a lot of ads everywhere...but most of the people i know are pretty capable of thinking for themselves and aren't going to buy something just because an ad said it was 'cool'. if anything, people are more aware that ads are bullshit nowadays. i just think the apocalyptic attitude that you have towards our culture seems a bit overdone. |

In high school, there was a Career and Personal planning course with a week of studies dedicated to understanding marketing and the craftiness of it all. They actually teach this shit in schools now, as if it wasnt obvious enough. Maybe alot of people just take what they see on tv to heart. But most educated people who were raised by a parent know better. They can watch a Pepsi commercial and giggle at the silliness of it all, but that doesnt mean they are going to buy Pepsi. You gotta give yer common man a little more credit mangle. |

we're really on the same side anyway, you're just far more radical in your thinking. blindly radical, i would say, but that's just my opinion. |

Personally, i don't think i'll let my children watch cable until they reach a certain age . Id let them watch movies, and if they wanted to see a certain tv show, i could download it off the web. the reason i bring adults into this is its ultimately up to the adult to monitor what the child watches, what they wear, eat drink. The child doesnt have money to go buy all these things they see on tv, the adult is the one who buys this stuff. now unless were talking about orphans living on the streets (who somehow manage to watch tv), why wouldn't adults be part of the equation? |
