What's Your Funktion? 001:MixedBy djSOMA
Funktion Fridays, Ruff House Community and The Sasquatch Drummer are pleased to announce this first release of the What's Your Funktion Series mix CDs. You have come to expect a "Strictly Vibes" environment each friday and this series will be the soundtrack for this community, this sound, this vibe.
Watch the skys for more Mixed Cds from your favorite Funktion Fridays residents this spring and summer. If you have yet to check this hype then get your ass in the club and find out first hand with this crew is all about. Introducing: The S.O.M.A has been residing in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada for eleven years. Originally from Calgary, Alberta he spent most of his youth playing air guitar to the Police. When he arrived in Vancouver the summer of 1990 he began studying music mastering a selection of brass instruments including trumpet and french horn. As his taste in music developed he started listening to mixed tapes and radio sets which led to his love of dance music. He started studying this world of djs and discotheques during the 90's and continued to collect all types of Juke, house, hip hop and rock n roll. Focusing his efforts on commercial club music in 95 the young jock started running weekly club nights in the burbs and spent the rest of that decade dropping the hits. He traveled overseas to europe in 1997 and then in 2000 spent a year living in Cape town, South Africa. He spent the next 12 months playing rugby, learning how to speak english again (with some help from the local girls) and buying house records. Getting a taste of what the rest of the world offered, Soma soaked up as much as he could. Returning to Canada in 2001 with a ton of fresh wax and inspiration, he studied sound engineering, did some road work for a few bands and started gigging more often. Doing so he began a legacy that has been satisfying party goers for years to follow. Playing breakbeats, progressive house, electro, 2-step and mash up sets for the last 6 years he has had the pleasure of working for production companies such as Ph1, Twenty Hz, Solid Corporation, Twisted, and Silverwaters. During this time he as played along side the likes of Infusion, Hybrid, BT, The Bassbin Twins, Shiloh, Global Djs, Seb Fontaine, Lee Coombs, Evil Nine,Dj Marky, Planet Of The Drums tour, Dj Icey, Junkie XL, UFO! (San Francisco), Qzen, DJ Fixx, Rouge Element, Aquasky, Mr. Wiggles, and DJ Deekline. When asked what to expect in 2007 and beyond the cheeky cat replied, “Come to the club and see me rinse out this week. There are just some things you have to see live.” DOWNLOAD @ 192 Kps 01// Intro 02// Missy Elliot - We run this (duke dumont mix) 03// Scattermish - Bucky Done Kryptonite 04//Audio Bully's - All sing along 05//Rennie Pilgrim - Jackin' With Mr. P 06//Melante - Everything I think is golden 07//Cosmic Rockers - Lady in the red boot 08//Claude VonStroke - Who’s Afraid of Detroit (stanton warriors remix) 09//Pulse - Control the night 10//Martini Bros. - Stoopit 11//House of Pain - Jump Around (mickey sims mix) 12//Swain and Paris - Come as One (si mcevoy mix) 13//Spank rock - Bump (switch remix) 14//DMR - No1 15//Noisia - Gutterpump (rouge element & tom real mix) 16//Bitrok - Groovin (drumattic twins remix) 17//Splitloop vs the Stereo Mc’s - Connected 18//Stereo MC’s Connected (Original) 19//Slyde - The Click 20// 601 - Five O 21//Stereo 8 - Never coming back 22//Aquasky - Bring it on down 23//The Rouge Element - The Moves 24//Electric Disco Loser - London re-mash 25//Plump Djs - Electric Disco (original) 26//Don Diablo - Blow your speakers (sebastian ledger) 27//Switch - Get on down 28//Mc Chickaboo - Freakapella 29//Outro Info on the Party March 30th, 2007 Last edited by soma; Apr 10, 07 at 05:43 PM. |
