i'm also confused about what to wear in the summer months in professional office settings. are summer dresses (as long as they're knee length, not low cut, and covered up with a cardi or lightweight blazer/jacket) appropriate? linen?

someone fill me in, i want to go shopping.

while I dont view bare legs as being trashy what so ever.. something about no nylons in a workplace seems unprofessional to me...

but then again it REALLY depends on the setting!

for example.. if you worked in a tanning salon 100% chances are nobody gives a shit if your legs are bare.

also depends on the dress or skirt you are planning to wear!! is it short? long? because if it's long I personally dont see any difference whether you wear nylons or not.

If in doubt, wear the nylons. You can't really go wrong, and that way you'll avoid worrying throughout the meeting whether or not the bare legs are inappropriate.

(I'm sure that if you think it can be trasy, other people you work with do too.)

After some reflection and consultation on the matter

-Bare legs are not acceptable in a professional office environment. (think veins, people do not want to see your veins. this is part of what nylons are for)
-Summer dresses are not appropriate, even when paired with a cardigan or blazer
-Linen is only appropriate if it is pressed and not wrinkly

of course this is only speaking in terms of an extremely professional work environment. Some professional offices adopt a more casual attitude to dress where things such as bare legs, open toes, summer dresses, etc. are acceptable. A safe rule when it comes to summer? No open toes and don't show any shoulder.

If you ever question 'is this appropriate for work?' then it probably isn't. You're better off being overdressed than underdressed.

I'm 5'11". I feel your pain. I buy "tall"sized nylons and am still always pulling them up. I still wear them to work anytime I wear a skirt though. I mean, jeans are more comfortable than dress pants but I still wear dress pants to work don't I???
