Welcome to Vancouver Island where the concepts of what are in/out of style lag by about 4 years from the rest of the world. It has gotten a bit better in the last few years, but still, Victoria is a city mostly full of hippies, university students, and seniors.

...oh and now crackheads, they're still fairly new though they're spreading quickly.

I always figured Victoria for about 2 years behind Vancouver... but the cool thing about the island though is that by the time the trends hit there they've been filtered and you guys generally get the good stuff.
