Dressing your age....
So I just turned 29 and I guess im starting to get a little bit insecure bout some things. Like clothes, and the slang I use. Ill get to the clothes first.
My style has never change but the price of my clothing have gone up with my years. I still sport the surfer/skater/rich-druggy look=(meaning I wear really expensive clothes) The thing is im really not that young anymore. Am I dressing appropriate for my age? I dont get ID'd anymore, girls dont call me cute anymore.... I know the popular answer might be, "who cares about what other people think, just wear what makes you feel good" or something along those lines. But I want a better answer. So enough pouting..what do you guys think? |

.. the last quote is true though.. how do you consider when a style does not fit a certain age anymore? YOU CAN"T!
some friend of mine, he's like 50 something, and guess what? he still dresses like a skater. Hat, board shorts, skate shoes... etc. and i mean HEY! who cares.. everybody still respects him for who he is...---being real. so.. dude.. WHO CARES! unless you always wanna wear a suit, or a turtle neck sweater with pants hanging over your ankle all day... |

your attitude and personality will show your age much more then the clothes you wear. Ensure you have that in check and I am sure anyone worth your time will realize you are infact mature ( assuming you are), even if you wear 'really expensive clothes.'

I separate my closet into three wardrobe categories: at home, casual and dressy. Try to keep the at home stuff at a minimal or you may be tempted to throw it into your other wardrobe.
Take a good look at your closet, I would try and donate anything you don't really wear anymore. A lot of people have a tendency to keep clothes - even if they bought it in high school! Chances are, anything you bought in high school thinking made you look "mature", wasn't. You don't have to change your wardrobe completely, but there are a lot of items you can dress up and down - even in a skate store. It can be as simple as getting clothes that are a bit more fitted, changing the shoes you wear it with, CLEANING WHITE SHOES, etc. Another thing you should factor in is, where are you going to be wearing said clothes? You don't always have to dress mature, but do it enough and people may start to notice. One place in particular that may make a difference is work and girls. Clothes make the man, but it's really your choice if you care enough. |

I think dressing older and mature just means more practical or professional. For example, the right blazer looks both sharp and urban, depending on how you wear it. Same goes with kicks. I recently met with a 30 year marketing veteran and he still likes his leather jacket, jeans and chucks.
Try Freshman urbanwear for the grown and mature (851 Hornby). They got a great selection of clothes from the more mature lines of brand names, such as Polo, Stussy Deluxe, Jack Purcell, and Clarks. |
