Dressing for the Office

So I need to give myself a full on clothing makeover. I need to get clothes that are suitable for a very corporate environment, definitely looking to dress to impress...but its been a very long time for me..so

I'm looking for some help as far as the best stores to hit and the best basics to get in your opinion. Thanks!

Make sure to buy a good quality suit that will be intact for a long time. Splurge a little and make sure it's tailored and made of good quality.

Layering is also effective. Make sure to be aware of the hemlines of skirts and tops. Don't be afraid to take a risk with color and patterns. I personally like a punch of color or a bold pattern. Tells me one is confident.

Accessories also take a bland outfit to a whole new level. One solid eye catching piece or a multiple of intertwining pieces can compliment your outfit.

Lesson: Make sure the clothing fits you properly. Tailor if you must. Frumpy clothing, makes one look frumpy.

i say take advantage of the us dollar rate vs canadian, go across the border, and buy everything new.

Ross would be a good store to buy office outfits, and really really cheap. If some may think Winners is great, well at Ross you could buy 3 nice dress shirts for a price of 1 at Winners.

Booty shorts and a t-shirt that says "Hottie" in glittered letters.

No, wait, nevermind. You'd need to gain about 200lbs before that ensemble would work for you, Myra.

NOTHING SAYS DOWN TO BUSINESS LIKE SOME SLUTTY OUTFITS AT THE WORKPLACE.

Cece made a lot of good points. Tailored, fitted, and dont be afraid to splurge on quality.

As for pants, I am VERY happy with the slacks I got from Ariza. Very well fitted and stylish enough I can wear them out on the weekend too. Although I take very good care of them and wash them in a mesh bag. Havent faded at all either. Im sure investing in a suit there would be a very happy and well used investment.

Shirts /polos/sweaters: Check the sales racks at the Gap, AE, and winners (Tommy Hilfiger, Ralf Lauren are my favs)

Going for Cheep: Zara and Jacob. You can still find good enough quality imo if your selective. I have a few $20 sweaters that are great to layer with from Zara right now and they come in tons of colours.

In the States: I love the CK & Banana Republic out lets stores. Soo much cheaper than hear and I find its stuff I like and good quality. Sometimes ill find some really nice stuff at Ambercrombie like sweaters or long sleeve shirts. Its a bonus because Ill enjoy wearing it after work too. Also Express isnt too bad.

Dont be afraid to spend some on work cloths. The quality in the end is a bonus as I feel like trash when I am left wearing things that are faded or have lost its shape.

Also I find winter is much easier to dress for than summer. Trying to look sophisticated and dressed for the heat is a challenge.

I wore a suit to work for most of last year. (Now I'm stuck in a uniform that looks like I'm a flight attendant on a really ghetto airline :()

Honestly: Suzy Shier. And sometimes Reitmans. Cheap enough you're not blowing wads of cash on stuff you're only ever going to wear to the office, quality enough it's going to last, stylin' enough to look sharp and classic enough to stand the test of time. You can get a blazer and a skirt and pants to match, then use tops and accessories to make it more versatile.

edit: and the "petites" sections of these kinds of stores will probably save you some cash on tailoring too...

Myra...are you going for quality or quantity?
Imo, you are going to want various outfits over just a few so i'de say go for the cheaper places..I mean they won't last as long but then it won't be to bad to replace them...
you can get cheap basics pretty much anywhere(gap, smart set, zara suzy sheir even)
if you get some good bases (and spend more on them) then you can make them look different each time...for those i'de hit up banana republic,aritzia..you know the kind)

Jingles is on a distinguished road
the office is merely an extension of yourself - a suit is a great idea in theory, but if you aren't a suit wearing lady then it will make you feel weird and artificial - there are many suit alternatives that look as snazzy.
The traditional suit looks a bit dated anyway - pencil skirts, cropped jackets, wide legged pants and big buttons all add fresh appeal to traditional office wear along with some pops of colour.
Shoes make the outfit - heels, ballet flats, boots whatever it might be - think shoes. You've got style Myra...that's what all the girls say
satin sheets and luxuries so fine...oh yeah....
heh.
