This is a very special message I wanted to send to you as I know what it's like to attempted DJ'ing in a very intimidating male dominant industry. This event is aimed primarily for women (and men who are nice) who are interested in learning more about DJing and to show case some of Vancouver's local female talent in a fun club environment.

Leanne is doing the seminar from 8pm-9pm. Etel may have a few other top females from the industry speaking as well. The whole idea of this night is to introduce and make females in the indusustry feel welcome and learn something with out being intimidated by the guys. I think it will be a great night for all the girls to meet up whether your experinced or not.

20% of proceeds are going towards a scholership for The Rhythm Institute (Where Leanne teaches) for a lucky newbie DJ ;)

On behalf of all 'civil' males i apologize for this. It seems that we have a little bit of an ignorant fool on our hands. I'm all for this event. I say it's great! We should have more females spinnin'. One thing ppcock hasnt done is his research. Women fundamentally make better DJ's, if only because they have a better ability 'on average' to keep track of many things simultaneously. I bet a woman could probably handle more tables than a man at one time given that they had the same amount of experience. I think it's a shame that there are not more women mixing their shit. Miss Marz, i've seen you play. It rocks. (Got some footage from Summer Break too!)

proven fact.... women have better reaction time then men (and have better ears then men) so that in hand cueing, beatmatching, mixing/transitioning for a female is probably more easier since they pay more attention then us guys do....

Another interesting fact is if you were to put a girl in a drivers seat of a dragster. They have a faster reaction time to getting off the line and ripping down the track then a guy does....

with many genres under my belt. So thanks!

One of my favourite dj's in this whole planet is ill-esha, she's been rocking the decks for the same amount of time I have and every set i've seen her play made my pants wet with craziness. In no way im sexist or anything like that. But even when dj leanne made her dj school at boomtown, i was not digging it.
Why spend money on lessons when you can hook up 2 cd players to each ear, learn how to listen to two tracks at once, count beats.. its really not that hard.

How long you have been spinning has little to do with this topic. And as for the idea of dj school... well. It's a good idea. Anyone can learn anything on their own, but a school is a place where you can draw on the experiences of others, find things that you may never have noticed, and simply colaborate with your peers. a school is not intended to 'magically give you the ability'... it's to _accellerate_ your learning process. I'm sure that you would gladly accept a free scholarship to a school if it would make you better than you are. If not, then your time as a DJ is almost up.

Anyone can learn to drive. Yet there is still driving school... Do you think that attending a driving school might make you a better driver than if you hadnt attended? If not, then what is the point? and how do they manage to stay in business?

funny, i actually approached the dj school to help me sort out records and assist me with making a full on trance set that went from ambient, trance, breaks, hard trance and goa trance.
