I would have never thought that TELUS and Fido would have different service charges - go figure.

If you are transferring the contract into someone else name the fee should be $25. This $25 fee also applies to handset swaps done with a phone agent or at a dealership. There is a credit check, the account information has to be updated and an entire new billing account has to be created for the incoming person (just the same as if a brand new account is being set up) - but as a contract is a legal document there is a lot of 'behind the scenes' work to keep it legal. |

^you're wrong on a few counts here too, actually.
1st - the service charges....Telus charges $25 for an equipment exchange, BUT all stores (except like two) are independently owned and operated, and some of the greedy ones tack on extra charges. And about the renewals!!! Lauryn, this is for you. You CAN renew up to 12 months early now, not "officially advertised" but it is possible. And nearly everyone with 24 months or less left has offers up for renewal on a data device right now. If you have a year left, and are willing to sign for 3 more years starting today for a Treo, you will almost certainly get it. The Treo 700 has the benefit of Windows Mobile, which I love, as does the Q. They're very comparable devices. It's really a matter of personal preference. If you look on the website you can get a comparison chart of both handsets and their features side by side, or you can add me to msn ([email protected]) and I'll go over it with you. |

Advertising backpocket company secrets and offering to waive TELUS service charges on a webboard is really not good business. Charly - I can't think of why that would happen unless you did it at a dealership as prozac as pointed out the variance. |

Backpocket company secrets?! LOL Puh-lease. We receive no training or instruction on what is or is not available to any given customer, so we're forced to go on our own experience when making recommendations. If Telus considers early renewal a "secret", maybe they should tell the dealers that? If not, I'm going to use all the knowledge in my arsenal to get my customers the best deal possible for their needs.
(you do have a point about the waiving of service charges, though...I'm just too damn nice.) And I don't think we're disagreeing about the service charges, either, I'm just pointing out that not all dealerships follow TELUS pricing. Telus can say "this is the price" til they're blue in the face, but as long as they allow dealerships to get away with adding on charges, it's unfair to lead the customer to believe that these are the exact charges they will face in any store. Meh - I understand that you can only go by what you're advised - but giving the customer the best deal is not always price etc - a lot as to do with service. If everyone gets extra early renewals, waived service charges etc - eventually the service may suffer - they really are not there 'just because we can charge them' as many like to believe.
My beef is that you post all of this on a public message board - telling your friend is one thing (although wrong) but this is another. I'm sure every company has unique backpocket/non-advertised offers, but these are to fit specific situations and exceptions -- not just sell another phone. EDIT - plus I think I'm over it now anyways. it seemed to bother me more earlier. Last edited by LDUB; Dec 07, 06 at 12:31 AM. |

Ah fair enough.
Like I said, if I was expected to honour "specific situations and exceptions", I would expect a bit of instruction in that regard. I totally see your point, I suppose, I guess I'm quick to forget it's not just friends of mine that read this board! |
