You're right.
I don't know much about Jacksonville accomodations and nightlife - it's at the opposite side of the state from Miami - I'll ask the man though, I know he has a friend or two that live in the area. Expedia.ca is my life saver. They always have the best prices because they are in Canadian dollars and don't hide the taxes. What you see is what you pay. Fly out of Seattle, and don't bother with travel agents, they will just cost you more. Flying out of Seattle saves me average $250 per flight! You're probably looking at $300-$400 for the flight. |

Baby-phat,
If you're looking into travel agents, work with one that you have created a good relationship with, or "friends" with. That's how you get the perks and good deals. Here's a list of links that can be of use to you (or anyone else): Cheap Flights - Quick Links |

*shameless plug*
Please remember everyone, Flight Centre does have a PRICE BEAT GUARANTEE. So I will beat any price you find, as long as those flights are available...and that includes expedia.ca etc. :) Last edited by prozac; Apr 10, 07 at 10:33 PM. |

^ It's happened to me twice that I have gone in to flight centre with a quote from expedia.ca and they've said "we can't find that flight, but we have this flight for X amount of dollars more"...why is that? Does flight centre not have access to the same flights?

^we do but...something you may NOT know.
expedia.ca is not a live link into the airlines. They only update the site 3 times a day. On the other hand, when a Flight Centre consultant looks up a flight, they are linking directly into the airline's computer to have a look at real-time availability. So what showed up for you on expedia may very well be gone by the time you walk into FC. [edit; a lot of clients seem suspicious about the availability thing, but I will tell you, with cheap airfares, especially within north america, I have literally watched dozens of seats disappear before my eyes while working on a booking] also, expedia's "terms and conditions" states that they reserve the right to charge you up to (i think this is the right figure) $100 more than the price that originally came up in the search, if the fare has been revised since it was posted. They won't even tell you. You'll agree to a price, click through, and when they actually go and queue your tickets they may very well charge you up to $100 more without warning you. So sometimes you think you're saving 20-30 bucks on expedia and you end up spending more than you would have at FC. And last but not least you may have just run into a lazy consultant who would rather make money than honour the PBG. Also, the PBG really wasn't being pushed hard until lately. These days FC is determined to never lose a client based on price, so you'll find a lot less of that. Plus I'm not lazy :) Last edited by prozac; Apr 10, 07 at 10:39 PM. |

Thanks so much girls. = )
But as it turns out we're gonna work the trip to Jacksonville Beach in with our Vegas trip, so we're flying there from Vegas ($275 as opposed to almost a grand from Van). I'm ridiculously excited, and I know it's gonna be an awesome trip!! This September- 5 days in Vegas and 5 days in Jax Beach. |

Looking at flights to Miami this year I noticed that both from Vancouver and Seattle that the flights would actually get cheaper every month. They started at about $800 from VAN and $500 from SEA. About 3-4 months later the prices went down to $550 VAN and $350 SEA. I always thought booking early would get you a deal, but I guess not :?

I've always been curious, how much of a deal can an agent actually give a "friend". Ive had ppl send me to agents etc before thinking I could get a deal, but I never really know how much of a deal (if any) i could actually get by going out of my way? ^ It's true, Rhia. About a month in advance seems to be the best time to book to Miami/Ft Lauderdale. I left it two days too late and ended up paying $360 instead of $290, but I just got the OK from my boss today so I did the best I could :P
Taking overnight flights also helps the price most of the time :) My body is trained to go into sleep mode pretty much as soon as I buckle my seatbelt on a plane. It's awesome! |
