denman yogis
wecc is now closed due to strike.
i'm on fran's (the instructor) mailing list and she said she was looking into finding another space... possibly a church off davie, but she has nothing as of yet. anyway, i'll post here should the class be relocated... hopefully the strike doesn't go on forever. thankfully the smell of hot garbage will be blown into the suburbs, i'm not willing to follow it for cheap yoga. esi which are the classes you're doing @ yaletown? i'm pretty sure i've got a free week pass floating around my place somewhere... |

Keep me posted.
I pouted slightly as I walked by there today (tanning). I think I'm just in a pouty mood today tho. PS: I don't (think I) like hot yoga. And no I don't want to try. I almost ended my tanning session early bc being sweaty for 18 minutes was excruciating. I don't think I could handle a 45min+ class, where you're actually trying to do stuff. I'm kinda fussy about my yoga. |

posting quickly from work.
nev, yaletown yoga has three different kinds of yogas. hot (40 degree room), power (30 degree room), and yin (might be 30 degrees as well). you can do an into week for $20, which is a great deal because drop in price is $18. i like it there because they offer a lot of classes a day, which works well for my rotating schedule. if you like it after a week, you can try a month of unlimited for $99. the hot yoga at yaletown is different than bikram's. there aren't crazy instructors getting in your face and keeping you from actually relaxing. i couldn't really handle bikrams for that reason. yoga's not supposed to make you angry! i really like the power yoga at yaletown as well. i've just done more hot yoga there because for some reason those classes have fit in more with my schedule. try a week. you'll love it i think. myra: i'm off at seven. going to the hot yoga tonight. meet me at nelson and bute at 7:30 if you want to walk down together. nicole: if i'm working a day shift i try to hit up an evening class. if i'm working nights i try to hit up an earlier class. on my days off it depends. usually try to go earlier. edit: nev, if you don't want to try the week unlimited thing, but don't want to pay $18 for a single session either, you can try a karma class each friday night. it's by donation. semperviva yoga is supposed to be good too. and slightly cheaper ($80-$90/month). and they offer ashtanga yoga as well, but no hot yoga. i'm sticking to yaletown and paying a bit more because going to semperviva would work out to more a month if i added the $4.50 extra per session that it would cost me to take transit to the nearest location. (granville island, i think)

I agree with what Esi says about the hot yoga @ yaletown. I went to the karma class last friday and it was awesome. I think an hour long hot class is just right for how long I can stand a 40 degree room..hehe..
I also agree with what Esi says about the instructors at Yaletown. Try to go to a class Johnny is teaching, he is amazing. |

Esi, thanks for the totally thorough description. Sounds like something worth trying. But I have some serious painting to try and accomplish before my birthday, so I will have to figure out what works with my schedule (which, is actually pretty open, but manages to fill up. Fucking Leos)!

veni i used to do monday/friday nights... i didn't even know about the morning classes! i think my new schedule w/ be... monday: 8pm @ yaletown (to scope out the class/instructor myra's in love with) tuesday: 12.15 @ beyond fitness wednesday: 12.15 @ beyond fitness (providing i can leave school a bit early to get there in time) friday: mornings w/ veni on the beach!? (this would be so prime.) and maybe that saturday class that hasn't been organized yet, depending on how well behaved i am after work on fridays. when i'm back in school full time in september i'll probably check out semperviva because it's literally beside campus. haha 5days yoga/week. just thinking about it is making me limber and leeeeean. |

Nicole I'm going to for sure go next Monday to the 8pm class, so let's go together!
The website link you posted doesn't work...is she teaching at the beyond pilates studio perhaps? $5 drop in is very reasonable..and if its there, it's soo close to home. |

EDIT: POSTPONED TILL MONDAY....
Namaste Friends, Due to low response we will postpone outdoor yoga until Monday. I will need a minimum of 4 people, so if you still want to attend, please RSVP, no later than this Sunday afternoon, with your Monday class time preference (a.m. or p.m.). If there are enough of us, I will put something together. Part of our regular summer session of yoga was held in the park 2 years ago, and the senior students loved it! The ocean brings a special healing Chi energy, and we will learn about the vibrational energy of plants, too. Monday, July 30th ~ Outdoor Yoga with Sandra ~ PLEASE INDICATE 9:30 a.m. or 7p.m. Meeting place: 2nd Beach near the pool Dress in layers, wear your sunscreen if necessary, and bring water. Please bring your own mat and strap. Wear comfy shoes for getting a good brisk walk in, too! The cost for the class is $10, exact change, if possible. My understanding is that the community centre will be issuing refunds for all missed classes at the end of the strike. Again, if you are thinking of coming, please let me know by email. If you have any questions or concerns about doing yoga outdoors, don't hesitate to contact me. Outdoor classes are weather permitting. Thanks, and hope to see you soon for an inspiring yoga class at the beach. "Sandra Leigh" <sandraleighatshaw.ca> Last edited by Veni*C; Jul 27, 07 at 09:06 AM. |

veni i completely missed your post til just now... did the class on the beach happen? did you go?
mondays don't really work for me, i've got school in the morning and (if i ever get the night off work) i want to go to yaletown for the evening hot class. i really like the studio at beyond fitness... way nicer than the wecc and it's right above the h-mart! i stocked up on inexpensive produce and kimchi today after the 3d body ball class... it wasn't exceptionally awesome, but worked some new muscles i didn't know i had. i'm more looking forward to the hatha class tomorrow. any other takers? |
