I can't believe people.
So I work in the appliance sales/service industry and talk to many people over the day from all over North America. Its not uncommon to find service requests from customers that they assume is a warranty issue but in actual fact isn't. Heres yesterdays example:
One of my techs receives a request from a customer to check the screws from their fridge that appear to be falling out. The tech states its prolly not under warranty so I call the manufacture. Heres their response: "Its not under warranty but the customer will deny that I guarantee it!" I ask her why. "Well look at the customers last name (Johal, Gurpreet). East Indians always try to claim warranty on these kinds of things........Not to stereotype or anything" I thanked her for the help and called the customer. The customer stated that he knew that it wasn't a warranty issue and was prepared to be the service costs to fix the screws. Lol. I didn't even have to mention the fact that it wasn't covered. I can't beleive people think like that. This women had no idea who i was or who I couldve been. Fucking white people. |

LOL.
you got me there! You wouldn't catch me saying that at work though! Which I think is a big part of the point im trying to make. I can't stop you from thinking what you think, but its probably not a great idea to say those kind of things to people that you don't know. I mean if you would like to keep your job and all. |

I dont consider it racist, theres nothing hatefull there its probly just something that person has noticed over the years.
like in my store ive had to escort probly a dozen drunk as a skunk people out of it over the years, every single one was native. So if someone asks me about it and I say ya its always natives its not racist cause it always is natives. Does that mean every native that comes into my store is drunk as fuck NO and it certainly doesnt make me a racist for stating that. |

ugh. I hate white people..
Seriously though.. whats with people that say that? "I hate natives" I hate asians" I just dont understand why skin colour/nationality is still an issue. My friends Grandmother is a racist old biddy who is a quarter native but wouldn't tell anyone that if her life depended on it. She's crazy. |

The problem is that people generalize culture to race. It is true that some east Indian cultures place a very high value on money and getting the best price/service no matter what... and then there are east indians that do not. The fact of the matter is that the person you were talking to probably had delt with a lot of east indians that try to milk as much out of the company as possible. This isnt necessisarily racist, it is simply making a cultural observation (not all observations are positive). Its not like they said "all east indian people are dirty and will give you a disease if you touch them".
I am friends with a lot of east indian people, and the ones that are actually from India who have come here recently have ALL told me that some of the east indian cultures around here are ridiculously cheap. They made a cultural observation- that doesnt make them racists against their own race, they simply stated something they observed. |
