Cubed Jim
Good day sir,
Each band you have recommended to me has panned out into something I enjoy, so I am hoping you may have some other musical gems you wouldnt mind sharing. Everyone else is more then welcome to pass on their favs as well! Note, however, that chromeo-esque electro and mash-up isn't much my style. Thanks in advance! Mike |

They're more synth guys but Hercules & Love Affair are currently winning my "Producers of 2008" award, with a close second going to Neighbour. I'm biased because Disco was what I was into when I started clubbing but I'm really happy to see it back in house music.
One of the better recommends I got from Jim in the last couple years has been Bangers And Cash. The B-O-O-T-A-Y acapella has served me well on various occasions. But I digress, you're looking for bands right? Ever heard of Film School? If you like the whole Mogwai/Spiritualized Postrock kinda sound you'll probably dig them. They're a little older but I saw The Juan MacLean last week and they were incredible. The greatest mastery of the Theramin I've ever seen. |

I second Dave's suggestion of Gogol Bordello, think nouveau gypsy.
Stuff I've been listening to lately... Kings of Leon - Their new album is great. She Wants Revenge - If you like Joy Division you'll love this duo. Jamie Lidell - I can't say enough about this guy, he should have been born 40 years ago and signed to motown. The Verve - Their first new album in 11 years "Forth" is brilliant, give it a go if you haven't already. Maximo Park - Give them a listen. Brendan Benson - He formed The Raconteurs with Jack White, his "Alternative to Love" album is good. The Fratellis - They're just fun guitar rock. There's a lot more, but anything sort of genre specific you're looking for??? |

How'd they work out for you???
Additions... The (International) Noise Conspiracy - I really can't praise these guys enough, they're amazing live. It isn't ABBA's Sweden anymore. The Kooks - I sort of ignored them for a while, just because of the hype. But I've really been enjoying them lately Sia - A little something different, amazing Aussie vocalist. She's done work with Zero7 and the lot. The Raveonettes - If you've never given them a go, do it. Sharin Foo is probably one of the most statuesque women I've ever met in my life. Shitdisco - absolutely great band, with an even better name. Similar to The Klaxons but a bit punkier. I shall continue to add. |

Well, some better then others. Maximo Park is alright, but i really like that jamie lidell album. I understand what you are saying, he was born a few decades late! Also Kings of Leon are alright. truth is I have had it all on shuffle so I haven't got much of an earful of any certain band.
In terms of the others, Sia has been my girl for many years, a true staple of my playlist. And the Kooks are great! I did the same, but a friend in the summer had stereo control and won me over big. I'll check those others right now..thanks Jim : ) |

I'm always up for some local music, there are quite a few places, but it all depends what you're in the mood for. |
