I know your right again... it just keeps climbing the pyramid. goverment cut backs (keeps/incress their wage) college must cut back (keeps/incress their wage) and lill ppl get screwd :( Not that we know this is the case... im mostly reffering this effect when the first thing Gordon Camble's party did in power was give themselfs a $20,000 raise. I agree. Holding the public hostage is a lousy way to get people to see your side of things. This is not truly a last resort. A last resort would be realizing you're not getting what you're worth and finding another job. If students are being paid already inflated tuition fees, then something like this is adding insult to injury. Unions were originally created to combat things like 10 hour work days, child labour and pay that still kept people below the poverty line. It's a shame to see what unions have turned into. (but you reaaaaaallly don't want me to get started on unions..haha) |

Fuck that shit.
I've missed a lotta classes by now due to the strike. But look in your binders you bloody idiots; you have course outlines. Pop that shit out and start beating it, cause it tells you what you will be missing. ALSO, if you call your prof's infoline, they will have a long ass voicemail, telling you what to do. Missing a few points and a few jokes in class - yes. FUCKING WITH YOUR GPA - no. yuou know that book your teacher made you pay a lot of money for? yeah! open it and read a few pages. thats what he will be talking about. |

hmmm...From a strictly business standpoint, I would be pretty pissed off at the strike too. When I pay money for something I expect to get it. It would be like going into futureshop and paying $6000 for a plasma TV and then never getting it. It is sad, but if it was a business pulling this instead of a college, they would be sued for fraud.

So are you guys getting your classes cut and not made up to you? If so that hella sucks.
I still dont think its fair to blame the strikers. Like I said get involed and find out whats going on. Ive seen them get interviewed and they would be more than happy to explain the situation they ahve been put into. It's also not fair to tell them to find an other job. My mom left one of her jobs because they sudently cut her sallary. So what happens? They hire ppl who arnt properly educated or trained for it. I think this is what the union is also fighting becasue if they all quite there will always be somone else willing to do the job cheeper. And I think that is wear human rights get violated. |

Myra does have a good point that striking to the point where it puts ppl's education on the line probly isnt the best and was normaly for the purpose of being treated fairly such as hours of work, breaks, and child labour. However after Gordon Campble contracting out tons of Unions and the example of the loss my union faced... Im sure amny unions feel paranoyed and are trying to take a stand. You should be entiled to a small raise every so years. This is how it was 10-30 years ago. Our generation hasnt had the change to experince this fair kind of emplyment treatment as were growing up in and excepting the hard issues of job emplyment. |

fortunately, my school is not affected by the strike. i was talkin to the tech in my shop in the studio and asking him what he thought of the strike. (hes in the same area as the people striking) he thought it to be kinda obsurd.
my mom is a caretaker - janitor - of schools in the school district here. she took a 6 month course to do her job, and is now making $20\hour. that is pretty good pay for someone with no true further post-secondary education, and she admits to it. everytime her union has stiked for more pay, she misses out on money, and she doesnt agree with the strike. so basically, not everyone who is striking agrees with what is going on. dont point fingers at them all. in my grad semester i have been forced to miss 7 classes due to reasons of nature, and none have been made up. i get no extensions, and i can only work on most of my stuff at school. that sucks. at least you guys are having some make up classes. and im sure you can email your professors with questions and theyll help yah out. thats what ended up doing with my english course. as for the money part, holy shit does it suck to not be aloud to atend something you are paying $2300+ for. i just had to pay $45 to have them sign sheets declaring how much my tuition is so i can get moeny from the government. its stupid cause i dont even have the money to pay for tuition and they are asking for more. whast even more stupid is that i paid $45 for ten minutes of someones time. money is terrible, and it hurts everyone. do the people deserve more money? depends on who you talk to. do they have the right to strike? depends on who you talk to. personally i was more upset when hospital workers went on strike, and right now my medical is free. i think the schools should be offereing refunds of classes missed to the students. no one would complain then. |
