It really depends on your equipment and what you want to do. Its not just cdj's vs turntables any more either. More and more new items such as vinyl scartch, upgrated mixers, effects machines and tons of programs on computers are just opening the doors for DJ's/Producers to explore.
Although vinyl has that sound quality, more hands on, prevrence and earns that hard digging effort of respect... cd's are something a DJ can carry with them on a plane with out worries about their tracks getting stolen, you can get sent a track moments after its been created and burn it, more music is available on mp3 than vinyl, oh and way cheeper!!! Overall when it comes to whats easyer to actually use... I guess it boils down to practice since there pretty much ment to do the same thing :D |

in the end unless you're doing something truly amazing there is no talent involved. Djing is like riding a bicycle. You get your training wheels, then there off and you're riding on two, learn how to pop a wheely, ride with no hands, cat walk and then its up too you if you want to take it a step further that shit takes talent.

I don't spin im bout the vinyl.
I mean, vinyl just sounds... warmer, it has something CDs don't. But CDs are tight because... say you are going online and buying tracks for $1.50... well one record is like around $10, so you could buy like 4 tracks for the price of 1 vinyl. In that regaurd it's efficient to play CDs, and I've been told it's harder to mix with CDs if you're used to vinyl, so they both take talent. I think a mix of both is good, or str8 vinyl is good, but str8 CDs always seems like its missing something to me. |

I started on CDs, then moved over to vinyl....
yes, vinyl is more expensive and more difficult to carry around, but there is so much you can do with vinyl that you just can't do with CDs. (I have used both for the last 10 years... and I just don't feel like going into the nitty gritty details ONE MORE time, as this argument has come many many times). Also, it is a lot more visually pleasing. In summary, only wedding and top40 DJs use CDs... hehehehehe... yup, those cheezy Vegas DJs are just today's version of top40 DJs :-) Oh yeah, I can forgive (a little) the travelling super stars who use CDs, as the customs people hassle them a lot about the vinyl, and the airlines tend to lose the expensive boxes of their vinyl fairly frequently. But that is no reason for locals to copy the travelling superstars... In the end, if you love music and you love the ART of DJing, you should be investing in vinyl. my two cents. :-) -f. |
