Hiphop recommendations?

I know absolutely nothing about hiphop, and I haven't heard a whole lot of it. I'm interested in stuff with an underground feel, not necassarily well/over produced.

- Stuff with catchy melodic hooks, sampled strings, etc

I just heard this Remix of Ultramatic MCs - Poppa Large with a sweet rhodes piano lick and its inspired me to dig a bit deeper into this genre.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Same boat as you. Not really big into hip hop, but there are a few songs and a few artists I do like.

Try Swollen Members - Lady Venom, One of my fav's.

Outkast

All their albums are classics and change in style quite radically. Essential IMO.

Are you looking for some inspiration production wise? Catchy melodic loops immediately brings Pete Rock's or Large Professor's beats to mind.

Maybe let me know a few tracks where you liked the beats and I can reccomend lots more stuff.

the game??? jay-z??? blah. Boring

I need to listen to prefuse 73 more; I know nothing about.

Someone added dead prez! sic!

I think I need to make some mixed cd's here; or learn how to spin. I would SO spin almost every artist/track in this thread.

****all of you should check out Lucy Mae Brown on Wednesdays if you haven't or you should go more often. They play all this music and have wicked lemon beer! SO GOOD. plus Lucy Mae is such a pimp lounge/club.

anyone hating on jay-z must have forgotten about reasonable doubt (dead presidents II feat. Nas being in maybe my top 20 hip hop songs)

i know a lot of his latest stuff has been bland at best but we can't forget that he actually used to be really dope.

OKAY LETS SEE,

TI IS PRETTY GREAT
UGK ARE LEGENDS, PRACTICALLY RUN THE SOUTH, NEVER HAD A MAJOR LABEL HIT BUT ARE RESPECTED BY EVERYONE
LIL WAYNE IS PRETTY FRESH IN MY OPINION
BUSTA RHYMES IS TOP 10 OF ALL TIME HIS FLOW IS REDICULOUS
JAY-Z IS IN ANYONES TOP 5 OF ALL TIME, EVEN THE SHITTY RAPPERS YOU LIKE THINK SO
LUDA CAME UP FROM PRETTY MUCH NOTHING AND MAKES GOOD PARTY TUNES
LUPE IS PRETTY ONE DIMENSIONAL HIPSTER SHIT AND WOULD SUCK OFF ANYONE ON THIS LIST FOR RADIO PLAY
NAS IS TOP 5 OF ALL TIME

LISTEN ITS GREAT YOU LIKE HIP HOP THATS MARKETED TO PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY'RE BETTER THAN THE TOP 30 COUNT DOWN ON TV, BUT STILL IF ANYONE PUT THAT SHIT ON AT A PARTY PEOPLE WOULD GET THE FUCK UP AND LEAVE

IM NOT SAYING THE MUSIC YOU LIKE IS BAD, IM JUST SAYING THAT ANYONE YOU THINK IS A GREAT RAPPER PROBABLY JERKS OFF TO JAY Z AND NAS EVERY NIGHT, AND HAS HALF THE HUSTLE OF LUDA OR UGK IN TERMS OF SELLING TAPES OUT THE BACK OF A CAR FOR NOTHING

SO DONT HATE ON SOMEONE JUST BECAUSETHEY HAVE A WIDE APPEAL
