All about managing time. Lots of time can be wasted worrying about what you have to do but if you just manage it it'll all smooth out. I'm in some writing intensive courses right now and they make you do all these different steps to making a paper and make you write out a quick paragraph every week to sum up the readings.
Teaching others what you have learned from your readings that day and other ideas can help you remember that foundation of information so that you can build on it throughout the semester. |

i know its deffinalty hard. this semester im taking 6 (4 hour) classes a week. and i have 2 jobs. so yeah, its busy, i dont have a whole lot of time for anything else.
when i do have a few hour off, I work out, even if its just throwing on a 45 min work out video at home. it takes the edge off and gives me energy. Lots of tea..its refeshing unlike coffee. And of course, jungle/dnb, it can brighten even my worst of moods :p |

for serious though, find what motivates you.
sadly for me, it's last minute crunches...therefore i either seem to feel like i have a lot of free time, or NO free time -- however, that's what works for me. Assignments due far in the future I sometimes get a bit of a head start on. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to read A Discourse in Inequality by 2:30pm. Ok, when I was at SFU, I was taking 5 classes and working 20 hours a week and dancing 20 hours a week rehearsing for a show. I found though I was stupid for taking so much on my plate. So I moved on to campus to make the commute less shitty, I dropped a class and I kept the work... I needed the money. Get an agenda, a big ass calendar for your room and if you have to schedule and organize everything. If you have some free time, take a small cat nap, they work wonders to stimulate your brain, or just sit and read something that isn't your text book for 20 mins, talk to your best friend on the phone, or go for a tea with them. Tea with my bestfriend (and I mean formal tea, with the tea pot and such) really is my down time. We both unwind about everything going on in our lives and feel 10 times better. Another thing, walk walk walk, it's amazing how refreshed you feel. Get exercise too, please schedule it in... even just 30 mins of it, it's so important. Don't forget to eat, and if you are having issues managing, it never hurts to talk to your prof and tas about what is going on, they are more understanding than you think. Utilize the free counselling services that your uni/school most likely provides... it helps to get all the stuff you're stressing about off your chest.
Make goals, both small ones and big ones, make lists (my friends know I am a big fan of these) and cross off things when you're done, the sense of accomplishment is amazing when you've done it. Tackle the hard stuff first... the easy stuff is so much more welcome when you're done the harder assignment. The more time management you have, the more you'll realize that you have so much time! Like one person said, get up early, go to bed early... the morning is the BEST time to get things done and you don't feel like you're losing out on your day. Take a bath one day instead of a shower... it relaxes your muscles and your brain is rejuvinated. Drink water... flushes out toxins and is said to improve your memory capability if you're well hydrated. Another thing that is a good tip I've found is write on yellow paper... yellow triggers memory more than any other colour. Use sticky notes... and do your readings... profs love to pick miscellanous questions from that little paragraph 400 pages into your text book. Finally, all I can say is have a little bit of faith in yourself and believe that you can go it. You are your worst critic and your worst downfall. If you don't have any support from your family (and trust me I know that feeling) look to your friends, looking to your significant other if you have one... cat, pet, anything. And write a diary... it's important to get all your negative thoughts out of your head... otherwise they are just viruses hindering success |
