Montreal..
I've been thinking about moving there reciently. A good friend of mine goes to McGill....and has told me how much Id love it there in terms of the Music, Culture..and it just being very much like Europe.
Im planning on going there late April, to get a taste for it...but I have no doubt I'll love it. I was wondering about the whole French/ English thing, in terms of employment over there...because my French basically ends at alternative names for bread..Perhaps some of you might be more familiar with Montreal, the more I hear about it the more Id like to go...but there are so many things I know nothing about.. please spill forth!!...Id very much appreciate it :).. |

As someone who was born in Ville Marie Quebec myself i have no problem with quebec. Alot of them are snobby if you cant speak french and they have to speak english to you, but also there are ALOT more friendly people there then in BC here.

Well I was born and brought up in Montreal. Love that city to death. The one thing I will tell you is that alot of french people do infact know english.... They are just snobby about speaking it..... Alot of the jobs out there demand for bilingual speaking people however sometimes you can land yourself into an all speaking call center servicing people in the united states. Just gotta look through them... Montreal really is all about culture.... Aside to english and french you have a large italian, jewish, haitian, jamaican, Iranian, Arabian.... etc community.... If your into graffiti and other street art them Montreal is heaven... Lots of historic places such as the Lachine Canal, Old montreal / old port, Victoria bridge.... etc..... . The food out there is excellent. A restaurant you will find in many cases is la belle provence. You can normally get 2 steamed hot dogs with a medium coke and fry or poutine for $4.99 . I personally love "Frites Dores" on St-Laurent and Ste- Catherine street.
As per music is concerned? The scene out there is so much different then it is out here or even toronto. Essentally all genre's of music carries a crowd of its own out there... Clubs have a different atmosphere all together. From what I hear currently the house/electro scene out there is more of a "glam/art/fashion" exhibishion more then anything. Some of the well know clubs out there such as "Stereo" , "CLUB 1234", "Cirrcus", "Aria", "Club Vatican" have amazing production amazing sound and book in amazing talent. After all one of Gods Kitchen's north american offices is in montreal |

Montreal is the sickest city in Canada, i try to go there for shows twice a year. Job market is tougher there though, and weather is too hot or too cold, You can get by without french , but further away from downtown , its all french. If you call montrealers snobby thats because you put no effort in learning french . And montrealers dont get along with Ontario people
Btw Aria is closed now, Opera is a super-sick club not sure if it was mentionned |
