Decision making processes
What would you describe your decision making process as?
Are you someone who likes to sit down, weigh out the pros and cons of the situation and talk about it with someone close to you? Are you someone who prefers to make decisions quickly so if you screw up you have a lot of time to fix it and make the right choice? Are you crippled by indecision to the point where decision making is slow and you usually wait for something to come along or happen to force you to decide one way or another? I had a really interesting conversation with a friend about the topic on the weekend, I'm curious to know how everyone else is. I'd say for myself, I can usually try to be good with the pros and cons and talking about it..although I can often be indecisive about a lot of important things at best, there is a side of me that is totally impatient and I will decide to bite the bullet and just do it and see what happens. |

I am very indecisive about most things, but spontaneous about others.
When it comes to big things in my life.. I really look towards my friends and family for advice. That is definetly one of my flaws. I need to learn how to make my own decisions. This may sound cheesy, but often when I need to make a decision I will ask myself a question and then look down towards my heart. I try to follow it. A lady told me I should always follow my heart - that often when people are trying to figure something out, they look up for the answer. She said you should always look down towards your heart. I thought she was crazy at first, but I do this all the time. |

I'm actually getting better at making impromptu decisions, I used to sit and weigh things a lot more, but that gets you burnt sometimes I've found. Impulse can be a fun risk. I'm taking a huge one right now with something...I know the risks involved, but it's sort of fun :) |

Unless I know right away I will usually think about it very carefully... almost to the point in hoping I will never have to make the decision and eventually a path will be given. However I cant do this if there is a decision that needs to made asap.
Although I like to get my friends advice... I will never make a decision based on their thoughts. Im more looking for points of view I may have missed or don't see. But ive learned over the years that friends can make very quick opinions on things and base it more on their lives than yours. I think the best is to listen to your gut instinct. Which is hard for me because I get it mixed up with making the risky move. I recently saw on tv a lady who had to make a very quick decision. She was holding two balls and each with a different choice... she basically had to make the decision with in seconds and drop one of the balls. In a way it proves that you can think quickly and this is probably the best way to sense your gut feeling. |

For the most part I have a sort of 'gut feeling' type decision response. More often than not I go with my very first decision that for some reason or another feels right.
I find that if I over think something that I'm never satisfied with whatever decision I come to. In the end your very first gut decision is usually the right one anyways. |

I usually do some research and surveying then i take time to think about it by myself to weigh the pro and cons.
When making moral judgments it's much harder you have to sort through different aspects of your self to decide which way is right and that could be a crippling or a lengthly process for sure. With that i'd just go with whatever i felt was best and never have regrets even if it didn't turn out the way i wanted it to. |

most of the time i'm really impulsive and will make a decision becuz it seems like the best at the time without really thinking it through. these times are usually fun for the moment, but usually end up costing me something whether it be money or ... usually money. lol
when its something huge, i usually decide then change my mind the next day and then change my mind again the next day until i actually DO something about it. by then i have no idea WHAT i'll do... usually becomes an impulse decision. |

I am sooooo indecisive. Even picking something on the menu at a restaurant takes forever. But little things aside, when it comes to more "serious" decisions in life I definitely weigh out the pro's and con's carefully and try to make the most appealing decision.
I usually try to consider all the different consequences in the short run and in the long run. When a friend asks me for advice I will give them a 360 degree view of all the options and potential outcomes that I can think of that could occur. So basically, one will get nowhere in terms of decision making when they ask yoko for advice, but at least you'll get to live a 1000 different potential outcomes before the decision is set in stone? or something? hahhh. As indecisive as I am, once I DO make a decision I'm pretty strict about following it because I put so much time and thought to it. |

i used to always be very impulisve, some of the time even when i knew what decision i was going to make id look to friends and loved ones to see there point of view.
Now i weigh things out alot, for good reason. Every little thing i do affects Georgia, and likely Nathan, That and we make any major or semi major decision together. Last edited by PwInCeSs; Mar 19, 07 at 08:45 PM. |

That's me. I like to take enough time to really think things through without taking too much time to be indecisive. I also make sure that I have 100% of the details before making any big decisions. |

it's no fun that way, you tell it to someone, then you let the rumor get back to you...it's like telephone as a child! See what crazy responses come back!
