Being hammered on...
I know I'm probably going to get hammered on in this post too, but I'll do it anyway.
I do what I do and spend all this time because I love the music. I always have, and always will. WHP is a labour of love for me, it's nonprofit because I want to give to the scene. It takes a lot of work, cutting stickers, distributing flyers, showing up at clubs, booking DJs and always trying to find new ones, dealing with club managers, dealing with DJs and people and going out to the stores. While I know that almost everybody who knows me and comes to my events likes me and finds the music awesome, online and behind my back I get hammered on and shit-talked all day like some sort of high-school joke. I know it isnt true because I know who I am and I know my accomplishments both in my real work and with the philanthropic WHP. It hurts my feelings sometimes, and makes me very sad. All I want to do is help new DJs get a start, and help electronic music fans find quality, non-profit electronic music events easy to get to that dont embrace a drug culture and are full of great, friendly people. Such a simple cause, but it always gets convoluted, twisted, and turned against me in a rediculous manner. I wish it would just stop. Criticise my actions and suggest a better alternative. I listen. Since I'm trying to do this for everyone at no gain to me, help me strive further instead of trying to quash me down, because everyone inthe scene are the big winners if I win. :( |

i respect that fact that you try hard to contribute to the scene and its unfair for people who sit around doing aboslulty nothing to improve thigns critisize what you do. =)
but lets get to the main point. why are people "hammering" you in the first place? i've never met you in person and to be honest i've very unaware of what WHP has accomplished in the past, but what do you think is the root to this reputation that you as a promoter have? |

K_Pryde: I know the root cause, I know where it all started, and it's not very pretty and it wasnt my fault at all. Unfortunately, most of the people who are part of it today have no idea how it started at all. I wont be telling the story so please dont ask. As for questions regarding the accomplisments of WHP, we've thrown some dope-ass houseparties, a dope venue-party Mar 3/01, and we've brought 12 clubnights out for rookie and experienced DJs to play at on a nonprofit basis, of which we will be launching three in mid-late September and we are still successfully operating another two on top of those three, and hosted Area 3 at Lucky Charms in Seattle, also hosting a website that won the Sweetsite award on ravehard thats gotten over 46000 hits. Compared to some promoters this is barely anything, compared to others it's a tremendous amount of growth for a group that never intended to make money in the first place. We've made mistakes and learned from them, and made successful decisions and learned from those as well. Bob: Thats a very shallow thing to say. A company that tries to make money and doesnt, is not philanthropy, it is simply not profitable. I've dumped tons of my own money and time into WHP, and the very structure of it from day one was to throw events that strictly break-even or are free. There has never been a way for me to profit from WHP nor will there ever be. Philanthropy is giving for the sake of giving, which is exactly what I am doing with WHP. That's the way it's always been and the way it always will be. If you could consider fame in leui of cash, it's not exactly like I'm raking that in either, which is why I am posting this. And for everybody's info, the basement crap is bullshit. The only WHparty ever thrown in a basement was July 6/2002, everything else was either in a house and backyard, a venue, a restaurant, a club, or outdoors. I got into the scene when I was 23, and never lived with my parents ever during the time WHP has been in operation. The point of my post is that somtimes it makes me sad, and hurts my feelings when people attack me directly, personally, and professionally on a daily basis. I'm a real person, with real feelings, and as determined as I am to perservere, and as persistent as I am, I am just asking people to criticise my actions, suggest a better alternative, and I will listen. WHP is not a joke for me, it is a labour of love, my form of giving to the scene, and considering all the progress we've made from being nothing but myself in June 2000, it makes me sad that people throw that concrete information away and jump on a bandwagon crusading against someone they have never met, nor ever enjoyed one of our events. I've met many people who have said: "I used to hate you, man. But I never met you and now that I have, and I've heard your story and what you're trying to do, I'm sorry that I ever did." Why did these people hate me, when they had never met me? Hate is a pretty strong word. Because I was over-eager and posted to many promos on F&K, XTCity and LX? Because I stand up for what I beleive in? Because I throw nonprofit events? I'm sure some people could come up with a truckload of other reasons why (please, lets NOT hear them all) but as far as I'm concerned if you've never met a guy, he's never attacked you personally, you've never been to his events, you have no reason for hate. Like I said. Criticize my actions and suggest an alternative. I listen. Dont attack me personally. :( N E ways this is getting way to long *sigh* I'll leave you with this: "Being a promoter is a thankless job. There will always be critics." "Being a nonprofit promoter is a hard job. There will always be critics, and you can never even make any money for the shit you will take." - Various promoters talking to me about WHP At least TRY to make my life a little easier. I'm not going to give up but when people suggest something to me I always take it into account. ALWAYS. |

Everyone has a right to voice what they believe in and what they feel is right.
But if the message comes across the wrong way or in such a manner that it becomes annoying then the target audience becomes much less receptive and can even become potentially hostile towards the messanger instead. Put it this way, I respect you for what you are trying to do. But please don't try and ram the message down my throat. :c-tard: That is all. |

according to your stats you say you have had 682 'hits' on august 21st. according to the stats counter on your front page you have (as of 6.36pm) 49. click on the little box on the front of your page, or click here: http://counter43.bravenet.com/index....onth&password= if that isnt enough, the tracker im linking to doesn't track unique hits, just front page loads. hit reload 10 times and you get 10 'psuedo-hits'. so you're not tracking hits, you're tracking something like pages loaded or files-accessed. i also see no mention of a sweetsite award on the ravehard site. |

Re: Being hammered on...
i never got why the ultra hardcore elite people always bashed you..except for the spaming..but hell most of those people have huge sticks up their asses, they never like anything, and they never have something constructive to say.

why people do not like whp:
1. bullshit fronting 2. passing off as novelty what is the status quo 3. spam that's it kris. three things that have been consistent with you since day one. three things. we've told you from day two just what these three things were. three things. fix these three things and people might actually take you seriously. three fucking things. could you believe that? you might start to get respect from people other than the social rejects and two-month "don'tknowanybetter" newbies that you frequently are seen associating with. just three foikin' stupid things! 1. bullshit fronting this is something you do often, which i really can't figure out since it's so obvious that you're either bullshitting or stretching the truth to make yourself look better. it's evident in this thread regarding the page hits that you've recieved for your site. you claim 600 hits, but rawb has since pointed out that it couldn't have been more than a 1/12th of that. surely this could have been just a simple naive mistake if someone did not know the difference between unique hits and page hits, but it is not. you know the difference (as you definately should considering your job title). you knew better, and you had to have known that someone else would have pointed that out as well, so why the charade? why must you attempt to prop it up? in the end, it only makes it seem that you are desperately trying to compensate for something... (if you want other examples, believe me, i will provide.) 2. passing off as novelty what is the status quo. guess what kris. you're not the only rave/club promoter who doesn't make a profit! nor are you the only one that tries to bring upcoming acts into the spotlight and also tries to bring out the stars. nor are you the only one that attempts to promote to a positive crowd, ensuring a great night, every night. no... you're not the only one like that. there are plenty of promoters in vancouver who do the same thing you do. but you're the only one who makes such a fucking fuss about it. 3. spam while you might see your enthusiasm for your projects to be a healthy and constructive venture, others find it to be rude and disrespectful. you have been warned multiple times, and you have disrespected the wishes of the owners of these media multiple times as well. do you ever learn? haven't you figured out that since forum owners provide you with free advertising that you should respect their wishes and use this service moderately and without abuse? like, you're fucking lucky f-k exists and that it's sort of become a place of refuge for people who either don't like the other boards, or are disliked by the other boards. if for some reason the boys that pay the bills here, or the boy that spends it should decide to dislike you, then you're fucked. completely fucked. either you fork out tons of cash for paper fliers or you rely strictly on word out mouth, neither of which will probably work well for whp. you'll certainly ensure you're "non-profit" if no one knows about your nights to go to them. oh yeah, that's another thing. lose the whole corporate architecture that you seem to have running the whole thing. like, nothing dehumanizes something more efficiently than stripping people of their names and subsituting "programming director" or some bullshit like that in there. chances are that's going to you, or to juli or someone else. why not just use their name? why all the pompousness? it's so... soulless. fix that. (i actually think i told you to change that before, and you replied with something like "well obviously you don't know how a non-profit organization is structured". *sigh*. you just don't get it, do you?) but i digress... simplified, if you stop doing things like that, people will like you! ... from what i've seen, the only person that's been impeding you reaching your goals in this instance has been yourself. ][nkster |

kris, i've played for you before, and everything dale said is correct.
i do the same thing as you, crazy dave has been doing what you're doing for years, and yet you're the only one who'se trying to make such a big fuss about it. anyone who throws raves for the money must be stupid, azim, or both. i throw parties because i like throwing parties, but you don't see me ranting about how i do it "for the love of the music" or whatever, I JUST THROW PARTIES, and if i made myself a website, and i signed a few "up-and-coming" DJ's, i'd be no different than you. yet you seem to rant, rave, whine, bitch, complain and never shut the fuck up about what a philanthropist angel you are, and it pisses people off. if you haven't figured that out yet, maybe you should quit trying to throw parties. yes, throwing parties is hard work, everyone knows that. yes, promoting ANYTHING is a hard job, and everyone knows that. yes, running a website is a bitch, and everyone knows that. so basically, every post you make is either trying to promote another flop event, or trying to make people feel bad for you. don't whine. don't bullshit. and stick to getting the job done. nobody ever started a good production company based on talk, show me a good party, with good DJ's, don't whine about how hard it is, and don't try and toot your own horn because you're not doing it to make money, because NOBODY is. that said, good luck, and if you stop whining and bitching, you might actually get some respect back from me and the rest of the scene that you so "phinanthropically" love. |

holyyyyy shitttttttt, some people really have alot of time arguing on the board
it seems like whp may not be liked by some people, but alot of others still support you, so why would u care so much about what every single person thought about u guys, I mean u can't win them all and inkster has a right to voice his opinions, and I won't say anything cuz frankly I'm not that familiar with whp and do not know the promoters personally *cough cough* ~(annie) but ummm NARC?? ptff that was so not cool, cutting and pasting someone else's profile out to point things out? ummmm o-kkk knock knock? |
