Honestly, I don't think maturity has anything to do with lifestyle, or "things you do." It's all in how you think, how you react, and choices you make. It is an ongoing process. In my experience, it also took some observation and awareness of the people around me, and learning from other people's mistakes, as well as my own, which saved me a lot of trouble ;)

Growing up/maturity is largely a matter of outlook...of how you view the world...how you treat others and yourself...and growing up doesn't mean U have to stop having fun or drinking or partying or whatever...its a matter of when/how/how often/etc U are about it.
I'm older than most here and have met a bunch of U...including Bev...and a lot of U (most actually) seem more mature than a lot of peeps your age...some don't...and some seem less than their age but that's OK, everyone goes on their own pace. I think my whole life made me mature faster...only child with lots of independance and ability to make my own decisions...good and bad...going away at 18 to university and being not only on my own but also alone...having certain profound family changes while I was there...moving to BC knowing nary a soul...the list goes on. But through it all (and I think those who know me would agree) I haven't lost my 'youth'...my 'joie de vivre'...my sense of wonderment and discovery that allows you to feel young while being older and more mature. May I lay down and die the moment spontaneously dancing in my place to a good song makes me feel good about myself and the world! |
