I actually find 5-HTP and melatonin to be one fucked up combo. In short, it doesn't work. Here's what's fucked up: every time I've done that, I get zero sleep. Zero. You'd think it'd be a great combo, but it's not. But what's even more fucked up is that the next day it feels like a got a half-decent sleep. Melatonin rocks on its own, especially if, say, your work schedule changes. |

oh yes the famous 5HTP's...
welp i dont pop e's anymore, but i did a ton of research on this stuff back a few years ago when i throwin pills around like there was no tommorow... from what i remember, correct me if im wrong: MDMA (Pure "E", doubtful this is all thats in your pills but...) gives you that awesome feeling by causing your brain to dump massive amounts of serotonin(spelling?) on your serotonin recepetors... note: serotonin = natural high, eg: i take a sheit (amongs other things), i feel good, completly naturally ;) most of us know the above... but the problem is when you do e, the e you pop back will cause your brain to completely depleat your serotonin reserves. once this happens, and your still high, what will happen is your brain will start to bombard your serotonin receptors with dopamine. this casuses your serotonin receptors to burn out, altho im sure massive bombardments of serotonin do the same... quite simply... BRAIN DAMAGE! thats why when we (close friends and i...) used to pop we ALWAYS preloaded with them 5HTPs... to prevent the serotonin depletion, dopamine bombardment. sorry bout the spelling and all, correct me if any of my facts are wrong. hope this helps, tomek. |

I take the herbal select 50mg pills from time to time... I find 1 cap does me just fine. Anything more and then I am groggy as hell for the rest of the day. Taking more, then I would recommend doing so before bed (and be prepared for some crazy dreams)

Lemme tell ya about a story about 5-htp and similar health food supplements: i tried it but found being mellow and sleeping well for 8+ hours) to be boring.
i'd also tried GABA, glycine, magnesium and roseroot in a herbal mixture but just felt alert and "normal". but i avoid caffeinated products like energy drinks, teas and even coffee because the last time i drank espresso after a night of boozing with friends, i just went psychotic ie talking incessently until told to shut up, arguing with the buddy who told me to shut up and finally punching him. but then he's a booze and chemicals addict and was wasted on booze, various stimulants related to ephedrine, some shrooms, LSD and even weed, which we all had shared before going into Esquires that night, so he was probably jealous I could out-yell him. after the cops came and carted both us away for "public disturbance" - we both avoided jail time because once we were busted, we looked after each other. VPD jail is no horror show, but it sobered us up quick. since then, because my buddy is more of a drugtard than i, and my bad experience with caffeine mixed with a couple puffs of weed and half a JD, i avoid caffeine as much as possible. instead, i like the dull and boring stuff that makes most people calm because then people stop noticing you and don't get in your way. 5-HTP is like that. for most people it does nothing out of the ordinary, but your life will change for the better on the long run. sure you will be more boring than my buddy, who now lives on the streets due to the fact that ephedra is another name for really bad methamphetamine and related nasty stuff. but the fun of having patience will allow you to try to help out your party buddies who suddenly lose their minds and to help them slowly recover it. kudoes to 5 hydroxytryptamine, rhodiola rosea and all the ginsengs as caffeine substitutes, tyrosine to help maintain my dopamine, noradrenalin and adrenalin levels & keep my metabolism honest with the thyroid, methionine to keep my spirits up so I don't need SSRIs, various amino acid shakes to keep my abs trim, and other health foods i won't mention cos they'll bore y'all to death! I was thinking of getting some the other day though... but haven't been able to come up with enough reasons at the time to get it. I sleep fine, I eat fine... *shrugs* For anyone taking it though - I read in a book called 'The Food Connection'... that you are supposed to take it only 1 or 2 times a week (no more), a 50mg capsule (break it and place the powder under your tongue) with a plain piece of white bread - an hour before bed. (Cause taking it on a daily basis apparently raises the serotonin levels in your blood to a very high level - which is why some people feel high from it - which can eventually lead to heart valve damage in the long run...)
