What is happiness?

What is happiness?

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another.

Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are. After that, we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage.

We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, are we able to go on a nice vacation, or when we retire.

The truth is, there's no better time to be happy than right now.

If not now, when?

Your life will always be filled with challenges. It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway.

Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special,
special enough to spend your time with. And remember that time waits for no one.

So, stop waiting....
--until your car or home is paid off
--until you get a new car or home
--until your kids leave the house
--until you go back to school
--until you finish school
--until you lose 10 lbs.
--until you gain 10 lbs.
--until you get married
--until you get a divorce
--until you have kids
--until you retire
--until summer
--until spring
--until winter
--until fall
--until you die

There is no better time than right now to be happy.

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

So -- work like you don't need money,
Love like you've never been hurt,
And dance like no one's watching.

If you want to brighten someone's day, pass this on to someone special -- I just did!

That was some *happy* reading Winston...

I believe happiness can almost start immediately...but sometimes, happiness is masked by negative things throughout the day, the week, the month, the year.

Happiness is all around us...you just have to open your eyes and bask in it. It should be the *simpler* things that make people happy.

Honestly, I haven't been too happy with myself or my life for the past couple of months. I forgot what happiness was...and still is... I think I have to start looking into my life and really finding where that happiness has been hiding.

"Un"happiness totally bites :014:...and the reality of it is...once you're there, it's hard to pick yourself up and dust yourself off. "Un"happiness has a tendency to let you dwell in it.

I hope that everyone is enjoying the sunshine, their summer break, their new jobs, and their possible new relationships with that special someone this summer :Kimmie:

i think though every one`s definition of happy is different. so it`s not quick to find it.

first i think you have to find for yourself what YOUR OWN definition of happiness is...

if you can`t do that then how will you ever know when you`re happy. Just like the title of this thread I wonder.. what is happiness?

secondly there aren`t any rules of happiness. there are never any rules to anything. there isn`t a pattern you follow. `there isn`t anything TO predict. If you have eyes for happiness that only exists in your world then you`re lucky. You look around you and you feel that you are surrounded in happiness..

but I think that everything is just all in our heads and there is no universal accepted version of happiness....

my meaning is just like what I said earlier. Our definitions of happiness, (I believe) are all different.

You have to be able to experience the cold rain before being able to appreciate the warmth of the sun

that`s a quote I got frum a japanese movie. I think it`s the truth.

damn happiness.

hehe.. thas why im NOT getting married.. NOT having kids (well davEEE.. BUT you know...), etc. heheh i love the end part.. "so stop waiting UNTIL YOU DIE" *smerks* im still all up for my "and in the end.. we all end up.. DEAD." *smerking again*

yeah.. everyone has their own definition of what makes them happy.. with yoko on this one.. there are no "rules" to being happy.. do you really have "rules" for all the other feelings.. not really.. if you're happy.. you just are.. if you're sad.. YOU JUST ARE. rarrrr. (are and rarrrrrr rhyme.)

Happiness... just a thought....

Some (or MOST) people wish to alwayz be happy. But really, if you were ALWAYZ happy, you would never experience any other feelingz that come naturally to human kind... You would think *exactly, that’s the point! Who really wants to feel unhappy/worried/frustrated/depressed...* This is what I originally had thought... but all these negative feelingz make you appreciate happiness just so much more!

We did this thing in skool once where we had to choose to either be happy no matter what, or to know the absolute truth... and most of the people chose to know the truth over being happy... and after telling the others the cons of being happy all the time, they switched their mind.... cuz imagine a life with no other feelingz but happiness... This feeling would become meaningless. You would have no contrasting feelingz to intensify this happiness. It’s sorta like E: if you take it all the time, the experience is nothing really special. But if you take it again after a long time of not popping, it’s just so much more fun! heh

I guess the point of my post it to say that all these feelingz that we experience are really important in the long run. So if you are feeling really down, just think~ thingz will get better... and when they do you will be so much more appreciating of the thingz that make up your happiness!

jus like u said Yoko... "You have to be able to experience the cold rain before being able to appreciate the warmth of the sun"... that's just like the line in one of my lil poemz "you have to walk through rain to find your sunny day~*" and it's so true...

steve~ similarily: "The tragedy of life is not that it ends so soon, but that we wait so long to begin it."

"Live as if your were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." :)

Happiness to me is a simple life.

I need to rid my life of all complex things, and learn to live simply all over again. I know that once I achieve this, I will be a much happier girl.

what i think happiness is.......

it's a feelin that is in you and whatever you do can make you happy........everyday is a happy day unless you approach it with a negative vibe i guess...
you can be happy with ur family or with ur job but i think that you won't be happy unless ur happy wit urself......this isn't really what happiness is but that's what i think....you need to live life wit all sorts of feelings....and hapiness is one of them of course

my definition of happy and content

Happiness, to me, is a wild emotional thing that makes me smile. Nobody in life will be happy every moment, it's not human.

In life, you should strive for an overall feeling of contentment: i am me, i am okay, i feel good about myself, i am bettering and enriching other peoples lives.

striving to be constantly happy would make me feel burnt out. I love feeling truly happy, but i don't search for it. Contentment is more lasting, more real, and makes me feel Happy.
