My fair ladies -- chew on this

Women aged 15- to 24 report three times as much partner violence as do women over 45

Forty percent (that's right 40%) of sexually active, unmarried girls aged 15-17 don't use contraception consistently

Among Canadians aged 15-29 woman now acct. for 44.5% of new positive HIV cases compared to 14.6% in 1985

Single mothers are 6 more likely to face violence compared to partnered mothers

Single mothers are at an 81% risk of low-income and over 50% of single mothers worry about lack of food

Ladies I stole these out of yesterday's Province (A7 in Health News)

remember USE PROTECTION!!!

not only that! in my Health I class, the teacher was telling us about how there are a lot of 70+ year old women who have sex but don't use protection and how you need nurses to come into senior homes to educate them about safe sex!

BY LAW to help em bust a nut for both male and female patients :)

ok seriously, there's only 2 ways this statistic could fluctuate like that. 1: more female junkies, 2: lezbos are finding SOMETHING erotic on their body to stick into each others holes.

precisely the point I think -- there is no new help, so keep out of the situation -- Providing numbers is not the most effective way of opening everyone's eyes, but it was printed in a newspaper, a medium mostly read by adults - these adults who might also be parents or educators
people who might take this information and share with the young women ways to avoid becoming simply a stat.
this info has been taken from The Women's Health Surveillance Report, the first ever report on the health of women in our country- It's just a report on the state of things, no new plans for how to change them-- I think before help becomes avalible, people have to know that it's needed and I also think there is a misconception in our country that numbers like this don't exsist - that we are doing a good job with our sex education
and clearly we are not - if you look at all the red tape that surrounds our public sex education, and the continual focus on abstinence - I feel it's no wonder that teen girls in our sexed up society are falling into these situations
A society where teen sex is happening, we know it's happening but we don't prepare them for it -- We say well a hundred years ago they were having babies young, so this isn't any surprise it's happening now - the only difference is there is isn't any support for young mothers - where as a hundred years ago they were likely wed and had the support of the father

there were plenty of other stats to choose from -even positive ones
I just grabbed ones that I thought gals on here might be intersted in seeing, or might get them thinking

wrong.
In 1985 HIV was still a relatively new disease and it was being spread primarily through the gay community - this meant low numbers of women who were infected

but as time as passed we experienced, tainted blood and folks having sex and infected peeps sharing needles - ways that at the time we didn't know could transmit HIV

and the straight community didn't take it too seriously - they were too busy making sure they didn't touch someone who was infected or saying that HIV wwas God's way of punishing homosexuals
and while this was going on it was being passed from person to person
and young women who still aren't properly educated are out having unprotected sex, thinking if someone has AIDS or HIV they will look different, that they can't get it if it's their first time, that boys are honest when they say they are clean (or that their partner has ever even been tested) many people in the back of their mind still only see HIV as a injection drug user's disease - -- and those women are getting it
you see it's easier for a man to give HIV to a woman then the reverse - because of the female being the receiver - any tiny tears in there and seamen gets in ... - which means our rate of infection is sky rocketing because HIV is a disease of heterosexuals - Men still account for 55% of new HIV cases
but that's a huge cry from the 85% that they used to hold

the number one reason why female cases have gone up so dramatically is unprotected sex.
