dude, i got my tongue done 5 years ago, and 3 years later i got braces, and ive had my tongue ring in the whole time, and im gettin my braces off in 3 DAY!!!!!!! heeee wooo!

but point being that braces dont stop the tongue piecing, if the ortho told you that, (which mine has told me its not good, but not bad) he/she was hanking your chain! :c-tard:
