when you are on the birth control or the depo shot, ovulation does not occur, hence the functional layer never becomes sloughed off. so I don't see how your rag gets 'backed up'. my friend just got off the shot and she did not have any problems bleeding for a long period of time! for those who are all concerned with not getting your period on the shot, you DO realize that you don't get a REAL period with birth control either right? what you get is considered a 'withdrawal bleed', completely different from a 'real period'. --Joanne :P |

Everyone's body reacts differently to various hormones.
The hormones in different brands of birth control pills are patented synthetics, so each generic form of estrogen and progesterone varies slightly. Also about the "dangers" of not getting periods while on the DEPO shot: Some people might say that what women are doing now (menstruating every month) is unnatural. About a century ago, a woman would have anywhere from 5-10 pregnancies. I'm not talking live births here, just pregnancies in general. If a woman was pregnant seven times in her lifetime, that's 7X9months of not menstruating. That's not adding the 3-6 months that it takes a woman to start menstruating after she has a baby. And, since a lot of women had consecutive pregnancies, a woman might have a chance to have a couple of periods (if any at all) before getting pregnant again. You do the math. Also, back then, the average for getting your first period was about 15 (I think), not 10 or 11 like it is now. Soooo...if a girl got married at 17, and got pregnant right away, and kept getting pregnant until she had enough children to help run the family farm, she'd only have a few periods during her reproductive years. |

I've been on depo for 3 years. I like it. but hate it sometimes. It's VERY important to stay active (exersise, walk, etc) when you're on it or you'll probably see the pounds build up. And you'll feel better if you're not being a lazy bum. Take it from me. It made me quite lazy and less energetic.
