I don't know about people getting "turned on" by anime... a lot of the ones that I've seen involved rape so that disturbs me more than it turns me on, even if it's just a fantasy.
But, i can understand the benefits of animated porn. There are some advantages to animated pornography that "real" pornography lacks. For example, with anime, you can represent a fantasy that may not be realistic to enact in "Real" pornography. In anime, anything that can be imagined is a possible plot. "Real" pornography doesn't have those advantages.
In anime, it is easy to construct the "ideal" body and to exaggerate those body proportions. Where in porn you may have to search for the ideal actress, in manga you only need artistic skill to create him/her into "life". The unsightly body hairs/moles/stretch marks/blemishes are inexistent in the world of fantasy anime. It is also easy to "edit out" things one doesn't want to see in their fantasy scenario.
